What are some of your favorite books on recovery?

I'd love to read anything pertaining to my situation, and how I may better cope. What books do any of you recommend, what was one of your favorites,etc...

Thank you for any suggestions.

BnA,

Hi and welcome!!

One book that totally focuses on me/us is Paths to Recovery, the 12 step book.  I have learned sooooooooooooo much about myself -- some good, some not so (I need to change) things .  I also attend a "step" meeting where each week we work on a step and share our experience, strength and hope on that step.  I recommend them too.

When I first came to Alanon, a piece of very good advice I received was "don't make any major changes for six months" - it could be don't get divorced yet; don't leave yet; don't get married, whatever depending on your situation.

With continued recovery and attending meetings, just in me alone, the changes over the six months was huge.

Keep coming and posting, yours in recovery,

Maria123

I recently purchased Melody Beattie's "Codependent's Guide to the Twelve Steps".  I highly recommend this book along with others she has written.

I also like "Paths to Recovery" some of my other favorites are:

"How Al-Anon Works?", "Courage to Change" &  "Al-Anon Twelve Steps & Twelve Traditions".

Also, I like reading the Big Book & AA's Twelve & Twelve.

Hope that helps,

Rita

Try Reclaim Your Family From Addiction, by Craig Nakken.  I found it very helpful.

My favorite books... by far.... are the "Getting Them Sober" books, volumes one thru four, by Toby Rice Drews.  They were lifesavers for me, and very practical, easy to read books.... I was so amazed when I picked up volume one, believing that NOBODY could possibly understand all the chaos in my home, and there was my life splattered all over chapters 1, 2, 3, etc...
