Try the National Institute of Mental Health: www.nimh.org. They have been very helpful to me in the past.

I think, in addition to the absolutely EXCELLENT suggestions you were given here, I would call also the local rehab centers. The drug and alchol councelors can give you some book names and some authors with some research that put a "layman's" prospective on alcholism and the progression of the disease. I know at the university where I am an undergraduate, the medical school and the undergradguate Toxicology/Pharmacology department are also more than happy to help "civilians" (

) in their research. Additionally, emailing the state board of pharmacology (I'm dead serious here!) could give you some resources--the state board will have some names of authors and additional web sites that THEY use to research THEIR papers. **Just be sure you tell them WHY you're emailing them and WHY you're asking these questions.

Almost every major hospital has a site with a search engine on it.....you can find alot of info through their sites. Here is a list of some of the sites my husband and I use for research (he is in college now to become a dr. of psych specializing in substance abuse and addictions)
