Saw the Doctor Today RE: Lump

((((((((Family))))))))))),

First I want to say that the love and support is so appreciated here! You all are the best.

I saw the doctor today and he ordered a mamogram for me, but when I called to set it up they said I was too young and they would only give me an ultrasound. UGH! Gotta love HMOs. So I have an ultrasound on Friday, the soonest they could get me in.

The doctor said it could be a swollen gland, so he gave me a perscription for an Antibiotic. He said it could be a cyst (He really thinks that is what it is.) or it could be something worse. So that is why he ordered the mamogram.

He was really great he talked to me about for a while, didn't do the normal doctor in and out thing. I was really impressed with that.

After I got home I talked to my dad and I told him that I was thinking about not telling my hubby anything about this if he calls this weekend. I am worried that he will not have his mind on his job and do something that will get himself killed. If anyone has seen the TV series about the world's most dangerous jobs, my hubby is an Alaska Fisherman and he is up there to fish for reds (King Crab) or is that crabbing for crab? I think it would be best to wait until I know what the lump is and if it is nothing why worry him. My dad was in the Navy and when I told him that he said that he agrees that might be best.

So at least another week of waiting. sigh

Yours in recovery,

Mandy

Wow,

In my experience when I went thru this I went for the mammogram first.  Then because the mammogram was suspicious they moved up to the ultrasound.  An ultrasound apparantly actually shows more.

Because I apparantly have fibrous boobs, every mammogram I have will be suspicious.  They are therefore doing an ultrasound on me every two years.

So IMHO I am glad they are doing the ultrasound right away.

Am keeping you in my thoughts.

I wish you the best Dolphin.  We must not try to predict the outcome.  Sometimes we tend to consume ourselves with the worst possible scenerio.  I admire your courage.  If anyone can get through this, I know you can.  You have been in my prayers the last couple of days and will continue.

Well Mandy when I had mine done a few years ago I wasn't even 40 then.  This is what happened. I live in a remote town in Australia so I was flown down to the city had a mammogram, then ultrasound and fine needle aspiration all in one session.  Mine was only a cyst.  Since then I have to have a mammogram every two years.  Will be thinking of you and sending luv your way.  Leo xx

hey mandy

glad u went to doctor hun...

now all u have to do is wait... its more than likely to be a cyst..they are most common..

i have the fine needle test done and the ultrasound coz my poor "fried egg" type boobs were too sml for the mamogram machine....lol..

they give u numbing gel on ur breast b4 they do the needle test..(draw fluid outa the lump for testing) however i had mine done in my senses coz they had ran outa the gel... i nearly gave the doc a kick in2 the balls when he stuck the needle in...lol... oops!

im healing well now..its 2 days since the op... still sore but doped to the last on painkillers... eating ice-cream, watching DVD's, writing e-mails, reading my novels and generally chilling out.

u'll be fine hun... sure..u have us!

talk soon hun xxx

Lots of Love and prayers to you Hun.

I watched the whole series on the Alaska fishermen on " Deadliest Catch". What an awesome show!!

I worked on a lobster boat in the winter for 7 years. My DIL gave my hubby a plaque that says, "A fisherman lives here with his Best Catch". Someday, I'm going to make one to hang under it saying, "And a fisherwoman lives here with her Dealiest Catch". LOL!!!

Praying for you and your's, with much Love & TLC

We will be with you all the way!

I hope you get good news from your ultrasound on Friday. I'm really happy for you that you have a very understanding doctor.

Trust your instincts on whether to tell your husband now or later. You know him best - and you know his circumstances best.

Well before you curse the dr re mammogram, remember that folks in our age group have such an abundance of tissue that the mammogram wouldn't show much of anything. It couldn't get a clear reading. Your best best are ultrasound, CT/MRI. Then tell the powers that be that you "request" them
Worry about money later
