The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method

level.
Someone in Alanon has been telling me I must do God's will. Is this true? I was thinking of starting my own business, so I could make enough money to support my children and myself. I was told that it will not work unless it is God's will. Please help.
I cannot imagine anyone saying a thing like that. Nonsense!!! Sounds like some sort of zealot to me. We have our own free will to do as we think best, and if going into business is what you want to do, keep your ears closed to the naysayers and negative thinkers. SUch foolish people you do not need influencing you. If this is AlAnon's tenet, count me out!!!
I wish you all the good luck in the world with your plans. And may you make tons and tons of money! That's what people should be saying to you.
You go girl, Diva

Kissers, there is nothing wrong with wanting nice things for you and your children. I am skirting around this best I can. but it needs to be said; the CHristian books of the Bible make it clear that God does not want His children to do without. If you feel a calling to poverty, that's ok, go to a monastery, but the Big Man doesn't expect that. As a Jewish person, I have all this on good authority!!! LOL!! You know how we Jewish are about money...Now go and prosper and have fun and provide for your children and yourself. But don't feel guilty about doing it. Your God will be clapping His hands!!!! Diva

Thanks Diva. I thought there was something wrong with me. I was being told that we only should get what we need. This started making me feel like I was being evil for wanting nice things.
Perhaps there is a misunderstanding here. I supect that what was meant was that if it is God's will for you to open a bsuiness, then that is what is best. If it is not, then it will not work out.
Whichever, it is up to each of us to determine for ourselves what messages God has for us, if any. You must only answer to your own conscience. Certainly it is against all alanon principles to tell you what is best for you - only you know that. We generally say that if you are unsure as to the best path, wait until it becomes clear to you.
People that BELIEVE their dreams will work seem to make it happen. __________(insert higher power name) wants us to have abundants.
HP gave us free will, I don't think anyone determines who is to HAVE and who is NOT TO HAVE. It would be rather odd to grant someone free will, then say but only if I say so. OK, I'll zip it before I catch ______ :)
You go girl!!! Christy

Since there's no official Alanon position on outside issues, anything you hear - including from me - is nothing more than an individual belief or opinion.
My own personal belief is that God doesn't really care what kind of car I drive, or where I live, or how much money I make. I just trust that He will not lead me where He cannot keep me. God's will, at least in my experience, comes to me a little at a time... if He can teach me something by letting me be broke for a while, he will.
I agonized a long time about God's will. I think I confused it with my own desire to know the future - i.e., I wanted God to spell it out for me, so I could do His will. What I believe is that... I am going to do His will whether I like it or not. If I want to know what God's will is for me today, at the end of the day I review what I did, and well... that was it!
And I do believe God wants me to be happy, joyous, and free. But that doesn't mean I am going to be that way at every single moment... because H J & F is something I have to learn how to be. As long as I'm willing to keep learning, and accept that I'm never going to be *perfectly* happy joyous and free, I keep going.
Well thats quite a statement , intersting. We often talk about Gods will here . In relation to your business I believe that if we do the footwork set every thing in m otion and if it all falls into place u are doing the right thing . If u do the footwork and nothing seems to be working out right perhaps it is not the right time for your project.
Start doing the footwork and see what happens . good luck Louise
oh yeah I also believe in God will , Gods plan for me. But have found he supports my efforts for a better life for myself . Wanting nice things is not wrong and if i get too cocky or materialistic God usually whacks me upside the head with another lesson in gratitude .
I have learned to love what I have . which is along way from when I came here. I always took everything for granted prior to getting here . Now I just enjoy and share what I have when I can . God seems to like that :)
God also gave us free will and if we fail sometimes he really dosnt seem to mind , picks us up dusts us off and voila another oportunity appears . Life really is amazing
I often hear in meetings "God's will, not my own". The way our group interprets that is when someone says that it is to remind us not to be so attached to outcomes. Sometimes we can do all the right things to try and produce our desired outcome, but no matter how hard we try, things just don't turn out like we wanted them to. Sometimes things were just not meant to be and rather than stewing about it, letting it get me down, I have to accept that it is God's will that is to be done, not my own.
I think if it feels right and you have looked at it realistically, ok, do it. How will you know until you've tried? No decision is perfect, but it's your right to pursue your own happiness.
Go for it! Amen with the great Diva! If this Alanon "friend" wants you to live in poverty then please, ask him or her to help you with your bills! Good heavens! There's nothing wrong with wanting to help you family. Who wouldn't want to? You do what is best for you and your family. Leave the naysayers where they belong: way at the end of the line. I'm behind you 150%! Here's to you for wanting to make your life better!
Love and blessings to you and your family, and your new business!
Live strong,
Karilynn & Piper Kitty
