ESH please

My sister is addicted to prescription pain medications.  She is on a lot of medications prescribed by physicians.  However, they have her so doped up I don't know if she really knows what is going on at any given point.  One of the medications she takes daily is Morphine, she also takes 8 xanes daily as well as Oxycodone, and HP only knows what else.

She recently had knee surgery and the surgeon did not want her to take the Morphine along with the medications he would be giving her after surgery so she took her medications to the hospital with her.  Needless to say she stays out in la la land most of the time.

She is now seeing angels dancing around people's heads and per my conversation with her today she is now visiting with her brother in law's dead wife.

I have enough of the program in me to know that I cannot change her but I am so scared for her.  We have been trying to save her from herself since she was 18 and she is now 58 years old.  I can't count the number of times that she has overdosed and nearly killed herself, five of which were this year and four of them she was within minutes of accomplishing it.

My question is this:  Her doctor is readmitting her to the hospital for a blood clot today, should I pass the information about the angels and the conversations with the dead along to her doctor or mind my own business?

I agree with Abbyal pass that information along to her doctor's.  Sounds like she's hallucinating pretty badly.  Sometimes I don't understand how these doctor's feel they are doing a person good when they are clearly overmedicating them.  It is in HP hands after that.  Hope all is well.

How hard for you.  I have been around people who overdosed before.  It is a hard life.  I hope that you are taking care of yourself.

Mobirdie,

Am I understanding that she has her own meds with her that she brought from home?
If so, definately tell the staff!
They are giving her drugs on top of drugs and they don't know it. That in itself could be lethal.

The doctors would definately need to know this. Narcotics lower blood pressure and thin the blood, so if they give her any anethesia, that will further affect her blood pressure and her ability to clot. For her safety, I would definately tell them.

I did not know that narcotics lower the blood pressure and thin the blood.  GEESH....they thought she might have a blood clot so they have put her on cumadin.  She could literally bleed to death shaving her legs.

The doctor dismissed her today and sent her home with three scripts, one for pain, one for the cumadin and an antibiotic.  She had one filled...anyone want to guess which one she filled?

I think I'll just cut to the chase and tell her husband when he gets home to go ahead and make her funeral arrangements because it's just a matter of time now.

I love my sister but dang it I hate this addiction crap.  I've got enough program in me to know better than to let this get to me like this!  I have definitely slipped back to step 1 today.
