I had a request to post about my trip to Alaska so here it is.
Getting there and back is a pain in the butt, takes 12 hours from doorstep to doorstep. I was exhausted. Adjusting to the 3 hour time difference was a bit rough too. That's the only bad parts.
My hubby was a wonderful tour guide and had every day planned. It was so good to see him. We said g'bye on July 19 so it was a month since I'd seen him. We got in to Anchorage at 10:00 at night so we just collapsed that night. It was 1:00 a.m. my time and the end of a loooong journey.
I was up the next day at 4:30 his time..lol I never did get adjusted to the time. Hubby had plans to drive us to the Sound/bay. Man, in my wildest dreams I couldn't have imagined how beautiful Alaska is. Pictures just don't do it justice. It has lush green mountains everywhere.
I stood on the bay overlooking the water and mountains and knew that it was one of HP's best creations. It was breathtaking, literally.
We went on a couple hikes back in some wooded areas and discovered all kinds of neat stuff. Of course my first day I fell while hiking, slamming my thigh down on a big tree root. OMG, I thought I broke my leg and was limping around for a few days with a bruise that felt like there was a baseball under it and about covered my whole thigh. I told myself I wouldn't let the pain spoil anything for anyone. Especially me :) So I gimped forth..lol While hiking up a mountain we came upon a waterfall..what a bonus!!
and some really colorful mushrooms (it doesn't take much to entertain me..lol)
We made a 2.5 hour drive to Seward and took a 4.5 hour cruise around Kenai Fjord. That was the best part of the trip. From the boat we saw sea lions, a whale, a black bear climbing a mountain path, big jellyfish, puffins and glaciers along with with mountains all around and also jutting out of the water. It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining and it was about 68 degrees. It's really odd to have just a sweatshirt on and see ice at the same time.
And my favorite wildlife shot..
During the cruise they served a lunch of fresh grilled salmon and prime rib along with a salad and cheesecake. It was a day in Heaven. I have so many pictures of mountains it is rediculous..lol Hubby was making fun of me. At every turn of the road I was in awe at the new scenery. .
This next pic is Mt. McKinley at sunset. I can only imagine how massive this mountain is, from where I stood it was 125 miles away. It is North America’s highest peak at 20,320 feet.
Yes, I made sure it was ok with hubby to post this next pic. :)
The company hubby is working for has asked him to stay. We are tossing it around but I would really like to see my son graduate from the school he has gone to since Kindergarten. We may be living apart for 2 yrs. Just when my life is what I've dreamed of..lol Go figure. We're strong, we can do it :) We won't see eachother again until the first part of October when my stepdaughter gets married. Hubby will be walking her down the aisle IN A STRAIGHT LINE!!!! I have to share him and go to Michigan for that. Sheesh! that's going to be a rough week for him, lots of flying and driving. OK, that's enough. Thanks for reading if you made it to the end..lol

Hubby and I are drooling over the pictures! Sooo glad you had a great time. I take it your son had an awsome time too.
He looks so healthy and strong, and so do you. Who would have thought a year ago you'd be up in Alaska having the time of your life? Time has gone fast since your post on how sick he was. I remember hearing the agony in your voice. Now all I hear is joy, contentment and such strength. Congratulations to both of you. I am very happy for both of you.
Dreams are meant to be altered. I was so use to hubby traveling, and use to those odd phone calls in the middle of the night from Australia, UK, Thailand, Illinois... you name it. Never thought I would have him home this much (not that I'm complaining mind you).
Glad you're back with us. We've missed you. Love and blessings to you and your family.
Live strong,
Karilynn, Hubby & Pipers Kitty
P.S. Who's that sexy couple in the picture? They look very much in love and happy.

I am so impressed with your journey from detachment to crisis back to detachment. I am so so impressed that you are taking you into consideration with the move. I am glad that you have you in the picture. I left me out of the picture for years....
