Hello my name is Gary and I am looking for a Male sponsor to assist me in working the steps. I am in a relationship with my girlfriend who attends AA. I want to work the program for me. I do attend at least 3 ftf meetings a week and have for a few years. But have never had a sponsor or really worked the steps in Al anon. I live in a town of about 50,000 and there are only a few other men in Al anon. None of them have worked the Al anon steps. I really want to work the steps and need assistance. My hope is that this could mainly work through email but if the other person agrees maybe a phone call now and then if it works out. I see this as a two way streak. In my area we have a lack of men as well. There is a standing member of our groups that has quite some alanon time under her belt. She is in her 70's and has agreed to be a temp sponsor for some of our guys who are in need of finding a sponsor. Well, she is the temp sonsor for alot of us.
I do understand the desire to have a sponsor that is the same sex, as suggested, but if your goups are lacking in that area just like ours are this might work for you.
