I just heard this song again from a while ago and thought how appropos of us versus the drug or the drink (same thing).
"Drugs Or Jesus"
In my home town For anyone who sticks around You're either lost or you're found There's not much in between In my home town Everything's still black and white It's a long, long way from wrong to right From Sunday morning to Saturday night
(REFRAIN) Everybody just wants to get high Sit and watch a perfect world go by We're all looking for love and meaning in our lives We follow the roads that lead us To drugs or Jesus
My whole life I've tried to run, I've tried to hide From the stained glass windows in my mind Refusing to let God's light shine Down on me Down on me
REFRAIN
Everybody wants acceptance We all just want some proof Everyone's just looking for the truth
Everybody just wants to get high Sit and watch a perfect world go by We're all looking for love and meaning in our lives We follow the roads that lead us To drugs or Jesus

Maria123, that is a beautiful song, everytime I hear it I think about my AH. Have you ever heard the song "Alcohol"? When I heard that song I thought about my A too, but the video was very dissapointing to me. Any other time I could remember who sings it, and it is on the tip of my tounge, I hate it when that happens, but the lyrics are so true. Oh yeah, it is Brad Paisley. If you haven't heard it, it really goes into detail about the things alcohol will do to a person. Thanks for sharing and taking the time to write the lyrics to "Drugs or Jesus. Jade
Wow, that is so true......why is it such a difficult decision for some people????? I have asked myself that so many times....
I live in a small town with much drug and alcohol abuse among 45 yr old men and older...seems like the 70's just took them to the life of alcohol and drugs and most of them just can't find there way back....that is sad......
For myself, there is no choice it is Jesus all the way
Yeah I remember when that song was on the charts, very sad song too. But always struck me the desperation that the lyrics speak of. And if you go to AA leads listen carefully and you'll hear it--the despiration to be accepted, to be loved, to be okay, and later, to not drink. It's a powerful conundrum: I was desprate to be accepted, and now I'm desprate to accept [my alcholism].
That song always gets to me. I cry every time I hear it.
Also if my "A" dressed like Tim does in the video, my "A" looks alot like him. He doesn't normally look like Tim, but in the video I can see my "A". My "A" grew up in a town like that.
Yours in recovery,
Dolphin123
