Hi, I have been looking all night for a al-anon meeting to attend in mississippi. I come from a very long history of drug addicts and alcholics and it was not until recently that I have discovered that I have a major problem with enabling the addicts in my life I love them very much but it's that love that gets used against me. I don't know what to do or where to turn for help.
Welcome penny! So glad you are here! Don't have much time to write as I am on my way to work, but I am so glad you found us! Please join the chat room, you will find friends, knowledge and comfort there, I know I did. Please come back! You will learn how to help yourself if you apply the Alanon tools in your recovery. (((penny))))
Welcome to MIP Penny....you have taken the first big step to helping yourself by coming here. I can tell you that this is a great bunch of friends ready to listen 24/7. You are definitely not alone in your struggles. Feel free to vent all of your frustrations on this board. The chat room is open 24/7 when you cannot find a face 2 face meeting. They have scheduled meetings also. I personally enjoy the Friday night meeting and especially the chat following the meeting....those "fish people" are a hoot! And keep coming back it works if you work it!
Here's the link to the page for meetings in Mississippi - http://www.msafg.org/
You can also call 1-888-4AL-ANON (1-888-425-2666) Monday thru Friday, 8 am – 6 pm ET. for meeting information in Canada and the US, if your town is not listed there.
While you're waiting for a face to face meeting, you can read some of the old posts here - you will get some idea of what the program is about. There really is hope, welcome.
Thanks for your encouragment I'm going to try to make the meeting today. It's difficult for me to make any meetings my computer "ran away" and I'm forced to use the one at work for now plus working 2 full time jobs leaves very little time for self improvement. I am how ever very serious about seeking help and it looks like I have found the right place. I am going to do my best to finish my job and maybe I can make the 7am meeting it's at 8 my time right.
If you cannot find Al Anon/Nar Anon meetings in your area, go to open AA/NA meetings in your area. This is what has been done for ages in small towns and in towns where there is only AA.
Remember, you came looking for recovery. You came looking for solutions. Don't give "But...." You'll "but" yourself right into sick thinking.
in my area, there are no "open" AA meetings, and not enough people go to the Al-Anon meetings to keep them running, but i kept asking around and i found all of the Al-Anons at CoDA (codependents anonymous). just in case you can't find Al-Anon in your area, it doesn't hurt to ask around about all of the other Anon groups. good luck!
We are really GLAD that you are here :) This board is a great sounding board, there are some very wise people here much further down the road of recovery than you and I..
I would tell you that you have made the first step coming here.. Keep posting.. It works, at least it has helped me :)
