Regular meetings

I was looking for dates of meetings and found this

Regular Al-Anon Meeting - Regular meeting, not an Alateen, Newcomers, Adult Child Focus, etc.

Closed Discussion (CD) - Limited to members and prospective member.  These are persons who feel their lives have been or are being deeply affected by alcoholism in a family member or friend.  This give the participants greater freedom to discuss their own ideas and feelings.

Open Discussion (OD) - Open to anyone interested in the family disease of alcoholism.  Some groups invite members of the professional community to hear how the Al-Anon program aids in recovery.

Can someone please tell me what the regular meetings are i seen alot of the meetings are those? Does it mean since I havent went to a meeting yet that I cannot go to them?

It is my understanding that you can go to a Regular meeting - but a newcomer meeting may provide more information to you.

Our group doesn't have a "newcomer" meeting, we just ask that if there are any newcomers that they see someone after the meeting for a newcomer package and to ask questions about the program.

By the way - Welcome to MIP and welcome to recovery - glad you took the brave step of joining us -

Keep coming back,

Rita

regular meetings or beginners groups would be a great place to start.  Adult children focuses mainly on  just that .  Al-Anon reg meeting encompases all of us .

In my area all al anon meetings are considered closed , families and friends spouses of alcoholics, adult children welcome . No looky loo's proffessionals etc

Open meetings are usually attended by anyone working a 12 step program .

Good luck  Louise

Kyann,

Welcome to MIP.

In my area we don't have newcomer meetings either. At the beginning of the meetings we ask if there are any newcomers, and if there are, we may have one or two people tell their story, and then continue with the topic of the meeting.

Yours in recovery,

You're allowed at any meeting, and welcome. Some may be more helpful to you, because they are about your own specific situation - ACOA, if your parents were A's for instance. Anyone whose life has been affected by another's alcoholism, can come to any alanon meeting, though.

Glad to see you're already looking at the scedule to go to meetings, rather than going to the internet first.

Regular meetings, in my experience, suggest that there's 1) a topic--that something specific will be discussed in the hour by a person leading the discussion known as the chair person; 2) there may or may not be a specific format, such as literature based (one of our books would be used) or maybe someone will share their story (what life was like with alcholism before Al Anon; what ultimately brought them to al anon; what it took to get them working the al anon program; what keeps them working the al anon program today) or perhaps just simply a general topic (example: hope); 3) it will use the steps and traditions

Regular meetings, in my area, are usually open or closed, but that's how their format works.

 You go girl.
