how to stop 2 steps forward, 3 steps back

What is the trick to keep moving forward in recovery?  We may not be able to stop it completely, but maybe we can stop crashing backwards and slow the fall.  I found this saying in my readings...

BACKSLIDING BEGINS, WHEN KNEE-BENDING STOPS

so if we remember to use our higher power daily, and turn it ALL over it should slow our set backs.  All our garbage, our urges to shout out, to take anothers inventory, all the crap that keeps us down, but not on our knees.  Give it over and be serious about it and do it daily, will keep your street clean and your head where it belongs, in  our own recovery and feeling our best.

Good Luck

Josey

ABSOLUTELY agree.

If not for my Faith I dont know if I could have lived through the past several weeks of my life. God led me HERE!

My prayers are heard and answered and I know this. God may not always give us what WE think we need but his plan for us is PERFECT and if we surrender our will in exchange for divine guidance ALL will come together for us....so true and what a comfort!

Keep the faith and Blessings to you!

Wonderful Reminder!!!

I just found myself moments ago pretty close to getting overly worked up...But I stopped and thought......is shouting going to solve this? Is getting upset going to make things better? What are my options?? I chose not to get upset...to pass my frustration on to my HP. In doing this, I can see a boundary that needs to be set, and enforced to maintain serenity here at home. Again, wonderful reminder Josey!!! Funny how we are guided to see those words that we really need to here

Oh, and btw, I love the pic of the burger jen

Hello, jrt,
This is an interesting quote. Personally, I don't think that when we are growing we actually "backslide." When we do something more than once, even when we are wanting to change, all we really seem to do is to learn more from the experience.
At least that has been my experience.
Blessings,
mebjk

What a great reminder, I have heard that before but BOY did I need to hear that again !!
It is easy to try to "fix" everything and everyone and believe me I did my share of trying.. But NOW, i let everyone "fix" themselves and only worry about ME.. ( at least I try) .. Thank you josey, it was a really nice reminder for me :)

God Bless,
Tammy

Not quite sure I agree josey. I think that--to some degree--the "2 step forwards, 1 step backward" is normal for our recovery. We have, after all, learned some very sick ways of coping, and after all this will take time to undo.

This being said, I am never going to excuse the sliding and such. But what I would encourage all of us to do would be to daily meditate on where we are. I know for me when I check in with myself with my morning program it tells me where I'm at--am I feeling sick? am I too tired to go to class? am I just over whelmed? This allows me to know where I'm at, what I need...and from back sliding.

Keep checking in, with yourself first.
