Butterfly pin for 1 year in alanon

Thursday night my best friend and I got our butterfly pin in a celebration ceremony put on by our home group of alanon.

This pin was given to us for our one year anniversary in alanon.

The ceremony had an alanon speaker and an AA speaker and plenty of refreshments.

The butterfly story was read. Here is a link to the butterfly story (there are variations) and I am unsure of copyright.

I am grateful today for MIP and the online alanon outlet.

When I first started I did not own a vehicle and was so depressed and repressed that I could not entertain the thought of figuring out how to get to a face to face meeting. I learned alot from my online friends and they encouraged me to go to face to face meetings

It was the need to get to meetings that motivated me to rent cars from Enterprise on the weekends for $9.99 a day and go to a Friday night meeting. Then I had the car so I was able to meet in person a friend I met on MIP. SHe turned out to be a lifesaver. Reflecting and questioning things that I would tell her. I lived an awful existence for a long time and never questioned the status quo. My husband drank 24/7 and was angry and abusive, and I was miserable. That was my world.I was trapped in my cocoon of denial that there was a problem.

But as awareness filled my mind and I read and listened to the experience strength and hope of other people who were happy and smiled and even joked around I knew, I wanted some of that.

And I did what I had to do to get it.

Today I am happy and proud and still growing in the program ODAT.

Megan,

Congrats on the One year -

I've been in Al-Anon for almost 3 years - never heard anything about a "Butterfly pin"  I often attend Birthday nights at the local AA meetings to celebrate our friends in recovery sobriety birthdays, and have often wondered why we don't get that in Al-Anon.    I know my "Road to Serenity Date"  began on 09/03/03, but our group doesn't have any type of celebration.  I would like to present it at a group conscious if it is CAL.

Thanks again - and congratulations your year just made all our recovery stronger,

Rita

Thank-you my friends for lighting the path to recovery while I was cold and alone and in the dark.

I am enjoying flying!  I could not have done it without all the ESH, the wind beneath my wings.

The ceremony was good. Our names were called and we were presented with a small butterfly pin and they read the story that I put the link to.

Very moving. We had alot of newcomers that night so it was good they could see hope.

Megan - I hope this comes across the right way and I dont offend. Do you think your recovery is mostly based on your divorce or on AlAnon? Was it your divorce that helped you become more independent? or was it AlAnon? What would have happened if you divorced but didnt join AlAnon? what difference would it have made if you joined AlAnon but stayed married? what helped the most?

CONGRATULATIONS MEGAN!!!

Your story is so inspiring!  Really, it means so much to read about how really working the program has changed your life.

How beautiful that you feel that you have gotten as much as you have given...which is a lot .

Your positive and loving words of encouragement, along with wonderful example fo hard work on yourself, have really helped me, and others, along our way.

Thanks for showing us how our life can change when we work hard to work the program...and help each other.

Many many sincere wishes for the health, and happiness that you  so strongly deserve.

Much Love,

Isabela

  Congrats!

What an inspiration you have become to so many of us.

You were the first person that greeted me to this board and gave me hope then.  I am honored to call you friend.  I am incredibly proud of you. You have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that it can be done.  All you have to have is a bit of faith and determination and work the program.  Thank you for the many lessons you have taught me,for your friendship, your humor and love. We are honored to have you here.

Pipers Kitty sends you an extra big "MEOW" and if she could she would send you her most prized possession a mouse.   But she can't reach the mailbox.  Here's to you!

Love and blessings to you my friend.

Live strong,

Karilynn

P.S. Thanks for the cookies they were yummy!
