Thought for the day

I love the slogan, Progress not Perfection.  My FOO was so damaging that I just felt like a complete failure and idiot in every way.  Moving into adulthood I just thought I could never be adequate, even though I was successful in my career.  This program has taught me to see what I can do right, and to look at my problems as things to work on.  I was able to stop belittling myself and see how I've grown.  Progress not Perfection.  Grateful member.

Thanks Lyne for sharing about our Al-anon slogan Progress not Perfection. I'm grateful that my progress came with the spiritual awakening that I'm acceptable just as I am. There had always seemed to be goal setting, striving, achieving. Then the minimization of what was accomplished and on to what's next. Giving power to people, places, things to fill that God sized hole. Grateful to have found serenity in no longer trying to force solutions, doing what's in front of me each day leaving space for my higher power to reveal what's next for me. Seeking perfection, trying to control progress was not letting go. It a daily ritual now to humble myself and remind myself Thy will (HP) not my will be done.

Today's One Day at a Time reading - "Regrets are vain. They interfere with the good I could do today, the making of the better person I want to be tomorrow."

I like that statement. It's a great reminder about ego edging god out and choosing to be fully present in the moment to await my loving higher power's guidance, It means I need to practice patience maybe sit with feelings I don't yet fully understand rather than reacting to them. I'm mindful of my motivations because of Al-anon. I seek emotional balance now - healthy enthusiasm for work or a goal rather than choosing escapism through constant goal setting, the accolades, the material outcomes. Pfffft! For whom? I'm already enough in my higher power's eyes. I have more serenity when I let go and accept myself as my hp's work in progress.
