Courage to Change Sept. 21

Hello MIP!

In today's reading, the author reflects on their relationship with change. They share that they used to fear change. Although living with alcoholism was living in constant chaos, it was familiar chaos and this lead them to feel that they have some control over the chaos.

Thanks to Al-Anon, the author realized that this sense of control was an illusion. Now, they no longer assume that change is bad. They can look back on changes they have made since starting the program and see that there was a very positive effect on them.

Today's Reminder: Today I can accept the changes occurring in my life and live more comfortably with them. I will trust in the God of my understanding, and my fears will diminish. I relax in this knowledge, knowing that I am always taken care of when I listen to my inner voice.

Today's Quote: We may wonder how we are going to get through all the stages and phases, the levels of growth and recovery . . . Knowing we are not alone often quiets our fears and helps us gain perspective. Living with Sobriety

I remember the chaos of living with an active alcoholic before finding Al-Anon. Now that I'm working my program, and my AW is not working hers, there is still a lot of chaos, but I know I have choices and can chose when to embrace the chaos and when to walk away and let the chaos happen without my assistance.

I hope you make today a good day!

Skorpi, thank you for your service and highlighting this great page, really good stuff!

Points that hit me from this reading:

* We often are wrong about what we think is best for us
** Significance: We certainly don't know what is best for others; We need to rely on the infusion of spiritual guidance from ALanon; We must turn things over to a power greater than ourselves

* Fear is often Enemy #1, is pervasive and can turn our perspectives upside down and having us resist what is actually good for ourselves and others
** Significance: When allowed to roam unrestricted, fear can borrow negative imagined outcomes from the future to terrorize the present, completely disrupting our perspective, actions, and outcomes.

SPiritual guidance from Alanon helps us navigate this restoring our perspective, pointing the way to best perspectives and actions for what we can control, and reminding us that we need not become sidetracked with what is not...that's higher power jurisdiction.

Grateful for the reminders

Thanks Skorpi for your service and all above ESH. For years I couldn't tolerate quick changes, or any changes for that matter. My early life was so out of control that I needed lists, and plans, and when anything changed it threw me into a tizzy! Especially since program, I can flow with life changes much better. I can accept all sorts of last minute changes and change no longer controls me in a negative way that it did. Life is not static--change is often and inevitable. Let go and let God. :)
