Today's reading discusses the importance of being willing to take inventory as a group in much the same way as we do as individuals, and the importance of doing this to uphold the second tradition. It's hard for me to comment on Group Conscience as I tend to "leave that to the grown-ups" (I know, that's very flawed thinking, but consider it me taking inventory!) but I certainly agree that when everyone within a group is willing to grow, the benefits reach everyone. The reading also speaks about the disadvantages of only repeating reading from a single al-anon reader and it's a bit close to home since that's my sole contribution these days! Touche, C2C, touche! lol
What do others think- do you have examples of willingness to grow as a group to share, or does anyone have any suggestions for this little group to enhance growth (or do you think it's necessary?) I am a big slogan fan so I reckon a slogan-of-the-week (or month) thread would be kind of cool (just a thought). What do others think?
Thanks YKM for your service and such thought -provoking questions. In my F2F (still on zoom) we use about 4 CAL. I review all 4 when I lead and pick the one that speaks to me. We also occasionally have a business meeting (we were more regular when we met in person). That meeting gives us all a chance to express ourselves if we wish, and we vote on some items. We also still have our anniversary yearly meeting, and when in person we celebrated our individual anniversaries at that time. Putting all those things together I think our group does evolve. We also follow a format for the weekly meetings: 1st week is a step meeting, 2nd is a tradition, 3rd is adult child, and 4th is an open topic. When I share here on Mondays, I review 3 of the CAL's and pick the one most relevant to my life.
The message board is different than a weekly meeting, but I certainly grow from it. New people join and some folks leave or take breaks. It's all good. However and whatever alanon activities fit into our lives, it's worth doing. If someone connects more with C2C, no problem--it's a great reader! It's a great program!
Thank you for motivating me to attend my F2F meeting this morning. The chairperson picks a reading from CAL and we share popcorn style. Business meeting is on 3rd Saturday of the month. I go early to help set up which gives me a chance to get to know people and hopefully lead to consistent attendance.
