Today's reading concerns wishing for happiness. In our modern, consumer society we associate money with happiness.   We know this is not true, money cannot remove the effects alcoholism has on individuals and families. Serenity is free of charge at Al Anon meetings, but cannot be bought with money. Money, of itself, brings a whole new set of problems, and may leave the original ones in the background.  As Al-Anon members we can rely on our Higher Powers to help achieve serenity.

Today's reminder - Serenity is always available to me, but it is my job to seek where it can be found.

"I now try to take my problems to my Higher Power, but I leave solutions and the time table up to Him." As we understand

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have come to recognise that I will always have problems in my life, but now with the help of Al Anon I have come to realise that I can choose how to respond, that I can respond rather than react.

Before Al Anon, I thought that there would be solutions to the problem of alcoholism in my life, but they were always external and for other people to take action.  I thought money could buy a path to recovery through rehab, but what I didn't realise was that the alcoholic needed to seek recovery for himself.   I now choose to keep to my own side of the street and seek my own serenity.

"Serenity is free of charge...." What a concept! I love it!

Thank you BT for your service and share. It all rings true to me, as if I knew how to solve the alcoholic's drinking, NOPE. I've learned I cannot solve any of the alcoholic's problems, but I can work on my own. And with this program I have progress (not perfection), and I'm grateful for all my positive steps which bring me better mental and physical health, and improved coping skills for all of life's twists and turns. Grateful member always.

Thank you BT and Lyne!! I do agree that serenity is up to me and how I control my reactions and perception.

It is true that money cannot buy love or happiness!!  smile

Thank you Al-Anon and MIP.
