December 3 - C2C - Meditation


Today's reading in Courage to Change shares several members' descriptions of how they meditate.  One quietly repeats the Serenity Prayer, others concentrate on their breathing or watch their thoughts passing by, and another visualizes placing all their worries, problems, joy, gratitude, and themselves into the hands of their higher power.

I appreciate how this page shows that there is no one way of meditation, and that different ways work for different people.  

For me, what works is to simply step outside, appreciate all the natural world that I see, and reflect on what I am grateful for at that moment.  

MIP friends, do you meditate, and do you have any experience to share about it?

Thanks FT for your service and share. I do meditate on and off. I am much more consistent with prayer however. I meditate by focusing on slow breathing, and I say a number of affirmations that often help me stay in a positive frame of mind. I will also add a request for HP. I find it to be relaxing.

Thank you Freetime for your service, and all for the great shares!

Over the years I have tried to "formally" meditate. I found it difficult - not sure why, as I have always been a "daydreamer" and have no problem zoning out! LOL! I have found that being in nature - or in contact with nature fills my soul like nothing else. Many times it pairs with a feeling of being one with spirituality. One reason I have always felt that a person doesn't need a house of worship to actually commune with God/HP. In this way, I feel it is organic, not forced at all.

There have been many people who have told me this is "wrong." I just don't care anymore. It works for me! I too, love that Al-Anon readings show that there is more than just one way to do this practice! I remember something that I read that really touched me: I can't remember who said it (sorry). The person mentioned that all prayer is a form of meditation. This made me think back to my memories of elders praying with their rosary beads and I concurred... they all seemed in deep meditation.

During my separation and then divorce, I had quite a bit of emotional PTSD symptoms. I found the practice of TAPPING. I began to employ this, and in this way, was able to go to sleep at night and begin to let things go. I was amazed at how well it worked. Now I use it whenever I feel the need. Looking back, it too can be a form of meditation.

Good Morning Everyone. Thank you Freetime and all the shares- they feed my soul. Long walks in a tranquil environment especially early morning clears clutter in my head. Music anytime, anywhere brings me great joy.
