Courage to Change October 20

Hello MIP!

In today's reading, the author reflects on precious moments. As a child, the author would spend lengthy amounts of time watching a caterpillar crawl, just in case it were to do something spectacular. The caterpillar never did, however the author didn't mind because simply watching the caterpillar brought joy.

As an adult, the author wonders how many beautiful moments they are missing while paying attention to other things, like trying to get the alcoholics in their life to stop drinking, or in recovery, waiting to solve a problem or be freed of a character defect. Now, the author is learning to make time in their life to enjoy the wonders life has to offer.

Today's reminder: I am learning to choose where to focus my attention. Appreciating life's simple gifts may take some practice, but as I become more aware of the beauty that is all around me, it gets easier to appreciate the beauty within.

Today's quote:  "Just for today I will be unafraid. Especially, I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful..." Just for Today

-----------------------------------

I've often reflected on how much time I've wasted focusing on things that are not important. Before I had active alcoholics in my life, it was a practice of mine to stop and enjoy the beauty nature had to offer. I remember my friends being annoyed at my joy over the first buds of spring, or my need to stop and enjoy whatever blooming flower was along the path. Living with an active alcoholic had an impact I've just started to notice - I remember taking time to enjoy the beauty of nature in the past, but I don't remember how long ago I stopped. I also stopped enjoying time with friends. My work in Al-Anon is helping me to notice the beauty and wonder around me and take time to enjoy the moments I am in. I think with more practice and program work, I will get back to my automatic enjoyment of the wonder that surrounds me.

I hope you make today a great day!

Thank you Skorpi for your service, today's reading and ESH.

I so appreciate Al-Anon for reminding me to stop and smell the roses instead of dwelling on what is considered

none of my business!!  smile  I attached my MIL transplanted heirloom rose bush which is blooming in October!!

{{HUGS}} To the MIP Family today!

Thanks Skorpi for your service and for all above ESH. I can honestly say I wasted years focused on painful and/or unimportant things. Although I still have stressors in my life, I'm able to use my tools most of the time and not get stuck on them. I've also been able to enjoy simple parts of life, especially in nature. I have a chipmunk that runs across my deck. It never gets old to watch that little creature. Progress not perfection.
