Oct. 7, ODAT - Let there be light

Before Al-Anon, life was like stumbling around in a dark room. Al-Anon gave me the power to turn the light on and to see clearly the difficulties and the good.

------------

Today's reading was short, though not as short as I have suggested above. I am currently in the grips of a family crisis and I cannot say I feel the power to turn the light on. I do, however, feel certain it will come on and I will find the courage to face what appears and the wisdom to see what my part is.

I would like all the alcoholics in my life to STOP! But I am grateful to be part of a program that instructs ME to stop: stop obsessing, stop worrying, stop interfering. I am only hurting myself, sapping my strength and I cannot control anyone else.

I must look for the good. "...light always dispels darkness."

Bbrave, thanks for your service, and may your crisis end soon. One of the important lessons I have learned in this program is that no matter how dark my day, and how hopeless I may feel, the light of alanon always comes back on. Always. For about 10 years now, and that's been time for plenty of problems. Some have been quite serious. Program always comes around again. And I get to put one foot in front of the other and keep going. Keep fighting, for myself. Yes some days are better than others. Progress not perfection.

Thank you for your service, Bbrave! I hope that your crisis soon comes to an end.
One of the things I like about Al-Anon is that I don't always have to turn on the light - there are others in the group who can turn it on, all I have to do is show up and be present, be open to the help the program offers.

I'm very grateful for Alanon and my hp who sends me life lessons daily. Things that come to mind are - When the student is ready the teacher will come and my higher power never gives me more than I can handle.  Hope everyone has a good day today. TT

"The courage to change the things we can"  Great reminder for me when I first stumbled thru the doors and then started to follow the suggestions from the elders...old timers."  Thanks to all for all of this.   ((((hugs)))) smile
