Program work is always needed!

Hi all! I still get on to read and rarely post anymore, but had to share an update! I had the most interesting not shocking things hit my awareness. So I went to al-anon meetings for years and had my old wise sponsor whom helped me do my first step work and pushed me to grow and do amazing things! Fast forward many years. My MIL moved in with my husband and I recently. This is my second marriage and he is not an alcoholic like the first one. So long story short his mother moved in very recently. She starts telling me her story of being raised by an alcoholic single mother, and how her now husband of 30 years has started drinking so heavy he became drunk and shot a gun at her because she wouldnt go buy him a new bottle of alcohol.
I know it may be wrong that I laugh at myself for divorcing my exAH and working such a strong program that alcohol would never affect my life again! And here we are. I just had to share this and Im so glad my MIL is reading the 3 daily readers with my in the morning and open to reading al-anon books that Ive passed onto her. Its such a small world and after 8 years of my husband not understanding why I still need to read and do program work after my divorce, is it to soon to get him to a meeting!

{{{BreakingFree}}}, Thank you so much for sharing! I think this is really the program in action. I don't know if your husband will want to go to an Al-Anon meeting, but seeing how you are working your program and carrying the message to your MIL, and that she is willing to receive these gifts -- what a miracle!

I don't think any of us can guarantee that alcohol will never affect our lives again. It affects so many people, and it is everywhere. Bur here you are, with your program, ready to face this new challenge with strength. I am sorry that alcoholism is affecting your new family, but I am so glad you came here and shared how your program works when you work it. This shows that it is good to keep our tools sharp because we never know when we might need them.

Breaking Free yours is certainly an MIP share and I identified completely.  Happy how things have turned out with your MIL and your husband and miracle it is.  Having the alcoholic resort to using a gun isn't strange either....miracle also that it missed.  If anyone else has noticed what is happening on the drinking market, the producers and manufactures are not backing off or slowing down at all.  Their creativity has grown.  I am always looking for an edge to reverse their trends and then "I am powerless".

Keep on keeping on...always needed.   ((((hugs)))) smile

BF, thank you so much for sharing this story!!

I feel, for myself, that this program is most surely a lifetime endeavor and you proved it for yourself as well!!

So glad that your MIL and you are working the program together and are on a common ground.

Also happy that your husband now can see how precious Al-Anon is to you as well.

{{HUGS}}

{{{BF}}}. What a positive and enjoyable share! And yes, HP not letting her be shotOMG! I think I will be a Lifer with this program. I see that I need it everyday, and want to be involved with program everyday. And Im in the right frame of mind, to want to give myself positivity, compared to all the years I deprived myself of what I truly needed. All good.
