Greetings, friends. Been a few minutes since I been here. Got a major change coming. I'm getting old. I'll be 65 next month, standard age of retirement round here. And, I'm going to retire. I actually had taken an early retirement at 63 and they asked me to come in and work a few shifts. That was 2 years ago. I work in a transition house for men in recovery from alcohol and drugs, and it gives me lots of reasons to work my program. I might miss that. I always have a lot going on so I don't think I'll be bored. I'll be able to attend more meetings. My wife is still working. She said she wants to work until the mortgage is paid and that's only another year. We'll be okay financially and we'll be able to spend more time together. We may even come here more often.

Always good to see you Wolfie and congratulations on your upcoming 2nd retirement....how lovely for you to return from the 1st and help others, or as we say in recovery - do some service. I retired early and was lost for a while simply because it was so different to adjust to not having to get up and be some place...I filled my time with tons of volunteer work with Boy Scouts and online store designs. I do enjoy the schedule I've created for my retirement and doing new/different things. You'll do great and you'll be amazed how quickly your time fills up. Hope to see you (both) here @ MIP more!!

Congrats Wolfie55 and to all the above retirees! I will have 4 yrs of retirement in May, and after working in the field of mental health for 36 yrs, Im enjoying a very busy life doing different things. Half the week is centered around my granddaughter and son and dtr in law, which was not possible while I was working. Im up there in years with most of you, so it is important to me to be grateful for each year of health. Program has taught me so much, especially around gratitude. :)
Thank you so much for coming on line. I am sure working your job. Is a constant message to stay current with recovery. Recovery being a way to plan for the future.
The future is I think for alcoholics a very scary prospect
I have been working overtime lately to prepare for new transitions. Transitions that I was always so impulsive about. I tended to be extremely rash and impulsive around some major decisions in my life.
Glad you are here to remind us that patience is a huge part of the program.
Happy 2nd retirement!! What a wonderful gift you gave to others (coming out of retirement when you were 63), to share your Experience, Strength, and Hope in a very tangible way! Now your HP will reward you with another opportunity to retire.
Enjoy the new found time!

Wolfie happy retirement to you. Bad choices being so sick and everything in my head, bad choices equaled bad career choices so Ill probably have to work until I drop but unemployment has enabled me to save some and at my age over 70 now, I know I can slow down and being alone and everything I dont think I would want to 100% be retired because what would I do? So Im cutting back on the bookkeeping but I guess Ill have to do it Until I drop. Just part of the price Im paying for being so sick for so long but oh well I just have to trust the universe will keep providing for me when I cant work. Im glad you get to spend more time with your family. I would give anything to be able to go back home and be near mine but this is really a lot cheaper living here in Texas than it is in Massachusetts. So I just make the best of where I am out right now. I think its better for me to have something to do in a place to go then nothing so I dont mind too much working as long as I can keep it at a minimum LOL
Thanks to all for shares and replies. As always, I don't know where I'd be without you. If Betty was here, she'd tell me to get to more f2f meetings. So, I'm going to one tonight. Its AA but I'm a double winner......

Have a great meeting wolfie....I got my first vaccine shot today and miss my F2F meetings greatly. Zoom has been a lovely replacement; just not the same at all. I am really, really looking forward to when I can return as well! (((Hugs)))
