March 4, 2021 – ODAT – Guarding Against Impatience


Todays ODAT reading speaks about when within the developments of sobriety in a family that it is not always 

magical and contentment.  Resentments carried forward from the past may/will surface and it is suggested that

we must be on guard and have patience that we do not lapse into feeling sorry for ourselves.  It is suggested that

to be alert to these pitfalls will signal that we are on the right path to improvement.

Todays Reminder:

I will start each day with prayers of gratitude that so much has been accomplished.  I know that my Higher Power

will continue to provide His light of wisdom in my striving for serenity.

Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun.  (Ecclesiastes)

Just like last Thursdays reading on February 24th, todays reading suggests that the Al-Anon/AA steps and traditions

are not only to be used during the active times of the disease but are equally important to use in the sobriety stages

as well.  I believe that the Al-Anon and the AA programs are a lifetime commitment, because alcoholism is never

really completely cured.  Gratitude keeps me grounded and allows me to live in the present because when I am

grateful for what I am and have, I am no longer worrying about the past and the future.  When I am in the present,

then I will be able to keep my thoughts on what is in front of me and with the help of my HP I can see more clearly

the best path to take, in difficult/troubling times. Wishing everyone a peaceful day today.

Thanks Debb for your service and for both shares of ESH. I pray every morning that my A will find a path to follow of treatment for alcoholism, but so far it's a no go. Talk about needing patience, OMG! Although there are periods of abstinence, there are mood swings and anger and a host of alcoholic behaviors being exhibited. Yet I also have gratitude for the growth and healing I have, and an ability to be OK and/or good much of the time. Grateful member.

Happy Thursday all - thank you Debb for your service and the daily. Thank you all for your shares & ESH. As part of my morning routine, I pray for all in recovery, all who need recovery and all who love another with this disease. I figure this covers mine and others who are affected/afflicted with the disease and sets aside my own ego and 'wants', which is no different than all - we truly want our loved ones with the disease healthy, happy and whole.

While I can 'waffle' in my mind with acceptance of life on life's terms, I do know acceptance and patience come much easier for me when I am planted in gratitude. So, as a part of my morning routine, I force myself to make a gratitude list. It's easy for me to be grateful when things are going well; it's not as easy when life is challenging. I find that when I do the same thing each day, no matter what's going on around me, I'm more centered and better tooled for whatever may come my way.

Gratitude for me is the key that opens the door to choosing joy and not giving my power away to others. My attitude is much better when I am focused on what's going good around me and within me than when I am focused on what's not going so well. I'm a grateful member of this program, and glad that we have MIP to supplement our programs.

I'm volunteering today @ the golf course. It's a lovely day here and good to be outside. I hope you all do one or more things just for you/self today! You matter, and you're worth it!

 aww Thanks Debbs... and y'all... aww

The theory behind C-PTSD is that people lack impulse control. which links directly to impatience.

We all have never had this demonstrated to us by our A.'s Not overall- anyway. And it is extremely

difficult, if not impossible to deal with tis behaviour. So the key is to curb our own impatience- and to

leave others to do likewise- if they are able. 

Adopting an attitude of gratitude is along term solution. Maybe even faking it at first. Painting on that first grin.

Easy peasy now- much of the time... smile ...
