Working it and it’s working

Sharing a positive moment I had this week. It was the clearest evidence Ive seen of the program working when you work it. I have a new boss. This always scares the heck out of me. I always worry their expectations wont line up with my needs, theyll think I suck at my job, theyll hate me and Ill lose my job. Meanwhile Ive had my job for a long time, I work damn hard, and Im good at what I do. Im not the best but very good. I dont need to be the best. There is no reason for me to feel this worry but I always do. I see this as the product of my upbringing with a mom who never solved her issues from her alcoholic dad, my never feeling security or support or safety consistently as a kid and my adulthood of unresolved fear of lack of security (life situation) and general feelings of insecurity(self). Okay, so I know where it comes from, yet I always do it. This time I was able to stop and live in just that day. I focused on letting go of old fears like the reading said the other morning. I gave myself permission to see the reasons I dont need to feel that way, to see my strengths instead of my weaknesses. I was able to take what Ive learned in Alanon and live in the moment not fearing tomorrow or any of the things I cant control. I reminded myself its none of my business what other people think of me and I did my job. The worry was gone as soon as I let it go. Is it gone for good...will it come back, or am I changed? I dont know and I wont worry because now I know, if it does, it wont be welcome to stay. Im so grateful for how Ive learned to live. Have a great weekend everyone. xo

SMS, you made me smile this morning because I was riddled with the same insecurities about everything.

Al-Anon has definitely made a huge difference in my ability to feel happier and more secure in myself and

surroundings. I am not perfect but much better for sure. So I can really relate to your feelings about the

arrival of the new boss on your job. So glad you were able to get past your fears!! Way to go!!

Sun.... HUZZAH! What a great share to read first thing this morning!

Thank you for sharing a personal, but concrete way in which "working" this program works!

I actually love to hear when people get that "AHA" moment when they realize that this stuff we are learning can be applied to areas other than our addicted qualifiers!

And Confidence based in reality promotes great work!

(((Sunmustshine))) - awesome to read/hear. I am one who still has a mini panic attack & fear of change, even good change. Where the program has helped me is it's more fleeting now than ever before. I salute you for pulling out some tools to use - way to go! Keep doing what you're doing - looks great on you!!

SMSgreat to hear good news on the board along with everything else! Ive found that the longer Ive been in program, the better my coping skills get, and my negative traits raise their head less often and less intensely. The tools work and I have progress not perfection, ODAT. :)
