The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
The C2C reading for May 26 speaks about the slogan ' keeping an open mind." The reading suggests that many times our idealistic rules for behavior limit our options.-- If we keep an open mind.we can adjust to change with a lot less stress, by being flexible in our thinking process.
As we grow we continue to learn and the ideas of today- we must welcome this flow of information as solutions can become part of ourselves
. The quote is from Helen Keller:" to keep our faces towards change and behave, like free spirits presence of faith, is strength undefeatable
Great topic Looking Up I know before program my mind was closed to any new ideas or concepts because I thought i was always right. Enter program , picking up tools such as listening in a non judgmental- non critical manner because of the of the no cross talk rule helped me to absorb new ideas and implement the concepts before my defect kicked in. :) One reason meetings are so important. Listen to learn was a slogan i used without knowing it. Thanks for your service.
Thank you Betty,
Just saw this,
It is a great reading for today..I'm learning to be more open myself,by using the tools of listen and learn,
And using more of think before I speak, helps me big time, which is new to me today I'm finding it works when I use it,which is becoming a bigger part of me today,,,,LU
Thanks for your service, LU. Like Betty, I too have found out that listening in meetings is in itself a way towards more open mind. Took me a good long while to really listen and hear and feel how another's experience can be applied to me. I also found I hate changing. My unhealthy thinking says - let everyone and everything else change, I want to stay the same...
Thank you LU for your service and the daily. Thanks to all for your shares and ESH. I did not consider myself close-minded before recovery and ... I was in denial. I truly felt everyone and everything should conform to how I interpreted values, rules, traditions, etc. I practice keeping an open mind each and every day, and have found freedom in doing so as I can absorb and consider or I can absorb and dismiss all ideas, concepts, etc. I can even do so without assuming they are wrong, or I am right. Each of us 'just is'....
Aline - I hear you on change. I too wasn't thrilled about it, and felt at times that I wish others would do so instead. Yet, the more I work to be a better me, the more peace I find in my mind/heart so it's been worth it in the long haul.
Make it a great Sunday all! Enjoy....
