The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
The Courage reading is about finding ourselves through the Al-Anon program - especially Steps 4 and 5. Many of us arrive lost, neglected and just not too sure who we are. We'e been consumed with the A(s) and others in our life to the point we can share more about their likes/dislikes than our own.
The steps give us the chance to reflect on self - get to know who we are again. Also attending and listening in meetings gives us ESH from others which we can try to identify with and again, focus on self. If we work our recovery program as best we can, we are given back the only true thing that was ever ours - self!
The reminder -- Recovery is a wonderful work. It means getting something back. Today I will try to remember that that something is me.
The quote -- "If a man happens to find himself . . . he has a mansion which he can inhabit with dignity all the days of his life." - from James Michener

I really like this reading and agree that it's given me me back. I am not the same me as I was when I arrived, nor before this disease started. I hope that I'm still growing, learning and changing well into the future.
The program does work when we work it. I am grateful to be free of all that used to occupy my mind and cause me great worry and distress. Cleaning my side of the street allows my HP in and allows me to focus on what matters most - my own needs, growth and recovery.
Happy Friday all - make it a great day!

Great reading, great reminder, thanks IAH for your service. 4th Step inventory was and is a huge part of my recovery as it opened my eyes to tendencies and patterns that I had not consciously processed, some of which took me until months later to unwrap.
Yes, it works when we work it...guaranteed lifetime employment!

I like the reminder in todays reading that self-discovery is an ongoing journey, not a destination.
I hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning IAH I really love this page as well as the quote regarding uncovering our true selves and thereby" finding a mansion where I can dwell with dignity the rest of my life. " What a promise!!.
Getting myself back is a true gift of this program and one that is happening one day at a time, with practice and commitment
Thanks for your service and have a lovely weekend
Thanks for the service and all the ESH. I was thinking I never had a self for years, so there wasn't one to reclaim. I tried to be whom everyone else thought I should be, so maybe, just maybe, they would accept me. And for years I never felt accepted anyway. Program helps me in this area to establish an identity I can love and be proud of. I don't have to please anyone else. And I'm devoted to continue to use alanon to allow me to have an enjoyable life with dignity. I think this may sound selfish to those not in program, but of course I will try and treat others with courtesy and compassion. Lyne
