Hi,

Meetings and readings are a big part of all of our recovery.

I myself find I absorb things best when I read them. Reading is my biggest tool, it gives me things to think about and knowledge. It might sound corney, but I have always believed that knowledge is power.

Hi Barbara,

I thought reading was a good place to find info, tools, support, and you name it. If it can be said, it can be read. We can get dysfunctional with anything that keeps us from life living

The BIGGEST PART of RECOVERY I found to be putting new knowledge into PRACTICE and going thru the CHANGES it takes to get to  IMPROVE LIFE

Lots of HugsBlessings

I devoured any literature I could get my hands on when I 1st came into recovery and am always referring back to it. As I gain a 'deeper understanding' I find when I re-read something I get even more from it. All the answers are in there, if I know where to look for them!

For me, knowing something and applying it in my daily life were two very different things. Knowledge helped my understanding, application gave me experience. I made many mistakes (and will continue to, I'm sure) but if I didn't make mistakes I'd not be able to learn from them!

Happy With love

yes, the literature is vital....but to me????  the most VITAL parts are the     12steps---God work-----sponser work............the steps are the backbone of the program.......if someone were in a cave, and had just the 12steps/  their hp,  and their  honesty/openess/ willingness...they COULD work through a bunch of stuff.... but add to that a sponser and u are "smokin"...........

when i can't get to meets,  i am ok  if i can talk w/my sponser.....meets are vital too,   but for me??? its the     spiritualness/  steps/  sponser/  literature........   just my take...... take what works, leave the rest,   rosie

Barbara,

I have every book/pamphlet and want to get more. I devour them, cherish them, and find comfort and direction. I find that I even have insights on every sentence that I read. As for meetings, I drive 30 miles to get to one and 2 1/2 hours to get to the other so I figure I better have something to say and get feedback. But sometimes it is good for me to just listen. And for the literature I agree that knowledge is one thing but implement through change of behavior is another. I have a rule with myself that if I become obsessive about my books (read into this finding "the answer" or how to change my husband) I have to put it down read something about finances or a novel for balance. I hope that I am in recovery because of these things but I do know that I want to be in recovery.

In support,

Nancy
