Powerful share Deb he title of your post reminds me of Step 10--" Continue to take personal inventory and when we are wrong prompty admit it"
I needed to be able to stop blaming others and accept the principle that no matter what anyone else said or did, I was responsible for my thoughts, feeling and actions . That by changing my "reactions" to life I would grow in serenity , courge and wisdom.
Wonderful tools to live by
Great thread - thanks Debb for your service and to both for your ESH!
We were talking about chicken/egg theory this morning - what came first - the disease or the defects. I listened and listened and it was a great meeting with all kinds of personal ESH & opinions. It dawned on me during the share that for me and my recovery, it truly doesn't matter - I can over-analyze all of this and WILL not FIND a definitive answer...
So, my share basically suggested that I too had pondered this, but while doing so - for more time than I care to admit - I came to realize that my HP put me 'here' for a reason with all of my flaws and strengths. He didn't want me to sit and ponder the cause or blame of why things are as they are nor who is at the 'most fault'. Instead, I am given one day at a time to choose recovery or not, happy or not, analysis or acceptance, faith or fear.
It was a great meeting and made me realize that when I get stuck and start to over-analyze, I am in some fashion loosing my faith. If I can instead choose to accept and do the next right thing, peace is restored so much sooner! Blaming others for my life is a lack of faith in HP (for my program). Trying to affect a different outcome - also an act of defiance against what should be. When I consider the outcomes of my former behavior, peace was not restored - just temporary sanity, which was not lasting.
God is good - if I can take care of me and work on me, he does deliver exactly what I need when I need it. I don't want to live with fear, remorse, anger, etc. - I choose peace.
(((Hugs))) to all and happy Sunday!
