Just looking to share my experience and hope to find some friends out there. In 2010 I lost my sister to alcohol. She died of kidney and liver failure. She was my best friend and I miss her terribly. I still am trying to deal with the feelings that I should have done more. Can seem to get over that.
Welcome Otis. Alanon face to face meetings are held in most communities and the "hot line" number is found in the white pages. It is at these meetings I learned to break the isolation caused by living in the insanity and pain of the disease of alcoholism . It is at these meetings I felt understood and supported as I was given new costructive toosl to live by. Alcoholism is a dreadful progressive disease over which we are powerless. Due to his powerlessness we tend to develop negative coping tools and need a program of recovery.
Welcome to MIP Otis - so glad you found us and thank you for sharing.
My sincere condolences on the loss of your sister. This disease is so terrible, and you are not alone in suffering loss, and continued sadness. The first thing I learned about Al-Anon is the 3 C's - I didn't cause it, I can't control it and I can't cure it. This gave me the ability to breathe and learn more about the disease and how it affects everyone.
So glad you're here - I agree with Betty - finding a local meeting will provide you with support and assistance from those who also love/live with or survive the disease.
Keep coming back!

Thank you. I do plan on going to a live meeting but I was recently in an accident and am in the process of recovering. This is all I can manage right now. What is the best way to contribute in this forum?
You can attend on line meetings held 2xs a day-- Check the top of the Board for times and access. You can also share your thoughts and support others as they share theirs Welcome You are family :)
(((((Otis))))) welcome home you got family here and empathy and compassion for your loss. Loosing family members to this disease is like a horror story...you watch them waste and cannot save them while you're watching the monster take them out. I've seen that happen to loved ones and friends and almost donated my own life to the chemical addiction. Stay free of it. Get into the face to face groups and survive. (((hugs))))
Otis, I'm sorry for your loss. Since you can't get to F2F meetings, keep coming back here, this can be your meeting. And if you go to the chatroom outside of meeting time, there are often people hanging out in there, especially after the evening meeting, who are great people who can help you with this as well.
