The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
The ODAT reading for October 23 suggests that we try to look differently at familiar phrases and attempt to understand them in a different light..
The saying :" he is standing in his own light, is used as an example. It points out that if we take the time to focus on ourselves, examine our motives so we can readily see our shadow over our own happiness by mistakes in our thinking.
I immediately thoughts about the crooked sign "THINK " which is on the walls in my alanon meetings . That "crooked" thinking definitely reflected my thinking when I entered the rooms and I honestly did not know it. .
Al-Anon has offered the way for many thousands, to solve their problems with the" Light " of program principles and tools .
. Today's reminder suggests that when we are faced with a problem which feels impossible to solve that we ask ourselves -- am I standing in my own way.? I must find the vantage point where we can clearly see the difficulty "as it is "then and the answers will come.
. The quote, "and the lights shines in dark places and make all as clear as day."
I honestly did not know how often I stood in my own lite until examining my motives, lead me to stop "reacting " and learn to respond. I then had the time to listen to the small voice within. I must admit that voice was always there I was not intereested in listening
Thanks to program I now know that this is my HP"s suggestions!!! What a gift
As I have 'grown up in public' through Al-Anon, many phrases have double/different meanings for me today. I am grateful that so long as I keep my mind open, and remain humble, I can be taught something new every day - from young, old, new, oldtimers.
This program gives me so many tools to do different and be different. I am grateful for the peace and serenity I get when I can stay program centered. Where else can you get results directly related to effort with such a lovely outcome?
Thanks Betty for the lovely daily and your ESH! So grateful for Al-Anon and to be sharing this journey with you and MIP family!!
(((Hugs)))

Thank you as well Betty for todays ODAT reading and ESH. I have struggled with
examining my motives, and worry sometimes about them. It takes a bit of soul
searching and "listening to those small voices within" to get a handle on what
drives me and why. I discovered that, for the most part, I struggle with fear
of being hurt, but as time goes on it has become easier for me to lose that fear
because the Al-anon has given me the tools to examine me and detach from
the hurtful chaos/drama that created the downward spiral. Thank you Al-anon!!
