Ok what can anyone tell me about someone being sent to the Salvation Army for 6months? What type of treatment is avail through them? Guess that is what the judge has recommended for my brother. The court does not want my mother to see my brother or vs. How can we get clothes up to him? Can they be left at the door, in an office, etc?
Barbara, I don't know anything about salvation army sentencing, but I do frequent our local salvation army stores. Never know where you might find a treasure!! LOL! It seems to me that the people who work there are provided with necessities like clothing, food, and a small salary. They seem to be bussed to the stores for work, and taken back to the "home" after. Sounds like your brother could have done much worse. Good luck, Diva

A woman I worked with's son was sent to the Salvation Army for 6 months.
I'm not sure if we are talking of the same program. He had a drug and alcohol problem and was sentanced because of domestic violence
They had no contact with him, except in letters. He was provided everything he needed. He was in substance abuse counseling, as well as phsycological counseling and worked for them as well.
This was several years ago. He completed the program, is still sober and him and his wife are back together.
That is all I know. I can look for her, she is on a different bus run now so I don't see her often, but I can try and find her to ask her more if you would like.
thank you Jeannie. That sounds alot like my brothers situation. Why wasnt the rest of the family able to be in contact w/your friends son? Did they all live at home? I understand my mother not being able to. Did the rest of her family go for their own help? Maybe Im being nosy.
Well I have heard pretty good things about Salvation Army programs. They are pretty bare bones but the people who work there are generally very very committed (from what I have heard) and very spiritually orientated.
I don't think clothes are an issue there as they generally have a lot of donations. Most programs try to limit contact with the family for a while but they don't cut people off with nothing. I think 6 months sounds like a good length of a program. They also usually have some work related stuff to do as the Salvation Army has a lot of programs to staff.
