New to online meetings - can you explain?

Hi,

I've been on the board for a couple of months and working my own meeting for several years.  Considering there are no F2F meetings on Sundays near me, I've enjoyed the online meetings you offer here for those days.

Thank you for having them.

The strangest thing happened today though - after our meeting there were two people sharing some real life "stuff".  We all remember being on that rollercoaster or merry go round at the beginning.  I opted not to make any comments, as I felt several other more seasoned members were doing a very good job of that.  I stepped away for a few minutes, and came back and someone had "kicked"? me from the meetings and said " NO LURKING!".

This just made me feel gross.  WTH was that- and how do I avoid it in the future???  I'm not sure where the line was crossed, but I don't want to do it again.

Clarity appreciated.

BTW - I got a lot out of the meeting and conversation until that point, so thank you to all who shared their ESH on that meeting.

Jenny

OH! I haven't done the online meetings yet but I'm one who can sit thru 3 or 4 F2F meetings and not share. The meetings I attend make it clear that you don't have to share to be there and sometimes I learn so much just from listening to other's stories that I don't feel compelled to share. I'll be interested to hear the reasoning behind this as I've wanted to do the online meetings but have been nervous about it.

The meetings have chair people who oversee the meetings so i doubt this happened during a meeting. If it happened in open chat when the meeting has been closed then im not sure how someone can kick another out. There are lots of newbies who dont know the rules as im sure you know so i would put this down to a non member and i would try not to take it personally.

I do not have the patience for the online meetings. That might
Say alot about me. I love ftf meetings a lot. I can just sit
And listen and absorb the energy and be in peace.

ok - I will let it go. :)

Thank you for the clarification - it's the same in my f2f, no one HAS to share to be allowed to remain in the meeting.

Also - after thinking about it last night, I think that I was triggered by the work "LURKING"....

If anyone has ever been stalked by their A, who did in fact lurk in bushes, this term brings up a real visceral feeling for me.

But, it did happen after the meeting closed, so no harm no foul!

Happy Monday!

Yes, not a good word at all, I didn't know you can do that to another person. I went to the morning meeting yesterday, it was a great meeting, they are worth it for me every time.x

I haven't been to an online meeting. My sponsor taught me QTIP=Quit taking it personally. One of the very nice things about alanon is being able to be yourself. So just go ahead and be you, Lyne
