The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
The ODA T today speaks about Al-Anon fundamentals. It suggests that when we attend meetings and may be feeling out of sorts , we look around and begin to be judgmental of others. Then we must remind ourselves why we are attending Al-Anon meetings.. We are at Al-Anon meetings with the sole purpose of improving ourselves and our way of life and in every meeting. There is some good to be gained no matter what is said or done.
Today's reminder suggests I will guard against looking for flaws in others. And the quote is from Kahil Gabrran: "I have learned silence from the talkative; tolerance from the intolerant and kindness on the unkind. I should not be ungrateful to these teachers.".
Thank you for sharing on this. This is a serious defect of mine. I have caught myself many times in judgment of others. It is important and humbling to remember that the trait often comes from low self worth or not feeling completely comfortable in any given situation.
Thank you Betty, I always look forward to your posts, they are always great reminders and keep me on track! I must remind myself as well, that to criticize others (including myself) is not only self defeating but delays growth and enlightenment.

It's a good reminder that when I am in a judgmental state of mind and only finding fault with others (including myself), there's something going on with me. I like that the reading suggests getting back to basics when this happens, keeping it simple and remembering why I am an Alanon member to begin with. Thanks Betty and everyone else for your esh.
