The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
The ODA T reading for today, March 19 stresses the importance of facing life one day at a time. It states that Al-Anon is a 24 hour program and that this gives us the comfort of knowing that we need not burden ourselves with the woes of the pastor fears of the future.
Remembering that today is our sole concern and that taking positive actions in this day will enable me to enjoy what there is to enjoy and to do what I need to do for my life in this day. By keeping our minds off our problems, this gives HP's the freedom to solve them. without interference from us.
The C2C today speaks about keeping the focus on ourselves and minding our own business. It points out that we do not know HP's plan for each individual nor the lessons that. HP needs them to learn from their lives so that judging others, or thinking we know better than them as to what they should do is just exercising or ego and not humility.
The quote is :"the greatest gift I can do to myself is my own attention. "
The quote from Benjamin Franklin is "Clean your finger before you pointed at my spots".
Both excellent topics for meditation for me today. One day at a time focused on myself, trusting HP and will be the principles . I live by today.
This daily lesson is so important to me!! I can only function for today. I cannot think about tomorrow, next week, next month. I don't even know if they are going to come.
Fantastic reminder. I really live by this, especially with my looming deadlines and graduation! My adviser and my parents want to know what I am going to do. I have it chunked out for myself, which makes it more manageable, and I only have to worry about the part of the plan that relates to today. That means that I don't worry about ALL the work I have to do, just the work I have to do today. I do not worry about what to do with my wife, her court date, etc. because I am just dealing with what she is doing today in the best way I can. I am not worrying about what to do about my job (which ends a year from May), I just worry about doing the best work I can today.
Keeping myself focused on "just for today" is actually helping me be much more productive, because I leave yesterday int he past and let tomorrow take care of itself. I will get there soon enough, and when I do, I will deal with it then.

Confused and Skorpi- I appreciate your thoughts
I have always found that meditating on the daily readings and picking up one small tool each day really helped in my recovery. Thanks for sharing your thoughts as well
Thank you Betty! Great stuff! Living in the past or future will keep me sick. I tried that for years. Playing God. Didn't work out too well! But, living in the present moment and turning to God to worry about the rest, then life starts to get good!
I love this: By keeping our minds off our problems, this gives HP's the freedom to solve them. without interference from us.
Glad for the reminder that I need to focus on today and this day only. Left to my own devices I think that worrying somehow helps me predict the future. Invariably, it does exactly the opposite and I miss out on today in the process. Thanks for sharing Betty.
I agree NTD and Mike I too tried to project into the future and protect myself from it but it does not work that way Better to stay in the day, pray and trust HP.
