Hello,My Husband recently was flown to Tucson medical for what they thought was a heart attack or a stroke. We still have no idea what it was but he has always drank but now it has gotten worse and i'm having a very hard time dealing with it. we went to the doctor today he was told the alcohol is playing a big part in his health. she suggested and detox peogram he has agreed to it , that's if he actually dose it. I told him he has to go or im leaving so he says he dont want me to leave so he has agreed.
Tara welcome. Miracles In Progress is a different focus. Yes the initial complaint is about them and what they to and what comes about however MIP and the Al-Anon program is about listening and learning to refocus our attention not so much upon our alcoholic partners but how we are affected by it and learning how to react and respond in a new and different way so tat we don't loose our life and any more of our insanity and going on to recover our sanity and lives regardless if the alcoholic/addicts continue to drink or not. Find open Al -Anon meetings in your area and go as often as you can...keep coming back here often to learn what we have learned to keep ourselves sane. (((Hugs)))
Hello!
You are in the right place coming here, if you can try out face to face meetings. One thing I learned the hard way was to set my boundaries and stick to them. In other words Say what you mean, mean what you say and don't say it meanly. I stick to my boundaries with my AH so that I don't develop resentments, anger, sadness and all the other grief his using days caused and now his sober days. Sober days now are good, however his old behaviors still show up like manipulation, but I am better equipped now to handle things....I don't take on the consequences any longer of my AH's using or drinking, nor take on his recovery. Life is so much gooder with the help of the folks here, meetings and literature. Keep coming back!
