The Courage to Change reading for today presents the idea of detachment in a very simple format.

It states that Detachment with love simply means that I stop depending on what others do, say or feel to determine my own well-being, or make my decisions.
When faced with others destructive attitudes and behavior, I can love their best and never fear the worst.

The quote is from All Our Affairs:". Detachment is not caring less, it is caring more for my own serenity."

I love the simplicity of  this presentation---  for me it  says : Keep the focus on myself, and live and let live with kindness and courtesy for all.

Oh that hits home for me. My fear was beyond the pail about the worst that could happen. I do not fear anymore because I know I will be OK

I will love until the end.

Thanks Hotrod for the memory.  I came to realize that my alcoholic/addict was expressing her own anxiety from her thoughts feelings and actions and instead of speaking them to a sponsor was attempting to find relief by dumping them on me.  Once I realized that I did not have the time, ability or facility to even remotely sooth her pain and anguish from her relationship with the disease I backed off from trying and handed them back to her which was insane because until she found AA and help most of the time all she would do was continue to drink and use which is what the alcoholic/addict usually does.  The disease was and is maddening and I am so grateful that there is a program called The Al-Anon Family Groups.    (((((hugs)))))  smile
