The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
I recently overheard a story (gossip) about an alcoholic stealing something of about 10 thousand dollars value, from someone. It might be true, but it's already 2'nd hand by the time it gets to me and the person who told this story tells things like that all the time!
anyway my point is prior to alanon I would have felt morally obligated to "do SOMETHING"( and that was my first thought this time too) after all this is wrong.
Now, I realize it's just not on my side of the street AND it may be either not true all together or greatly exaggerated.
IF I were to witness something like this myself perhaps that would be different.
Thank you al anon and higher power for keeping me on my side of the street this time!
Thanks, Glad for posting this insightful message. I too thought that it was my job to take care of everything and to correct every wrong.Much like Don Quixote-- I fought many windmills in my day.
The Al-Anon program taught me to stay in my own hula hoop, handling the issues that I am responsible for and trusting that HP will handle the rest.
For example -If someone has an issue with the Al-Anon program, I do not take it on, nor do I consider it. my job to correct the situation. I refer them to the governing board of Al-Anon- the World Service Organization (WSO) and trust that all will work out.
Before program I would've been jumping through hoops trying to fix it all even though I might not think it was broken..
