Today's reading is all about courtesy and how a couples 'intense involvement' with each other and 'violent quarrels' can destroy what should be a 'sacred relationship' The reading reminds us that a simple thing like courtesy can be like magic, it can take 'the wind out of the sails of the attacker.'
Courtesy is defined in the reading as 'a quiet, composed response' It allows us to keep our dignity and we don't say anything we will later regret. The quote at the end is beautiful:
Good topic courtesy! Life goes along
A lot better when people are capable
Of common curtesy. It is just mutual
Respect of all our humanness and
Good boundaries.
As far as relationship the same principles
Apply. Decency, mutual respect, care
And concern. Love your mate as you
Want to be loved. Treat them as special
And unique not part of yourself. Basic
Curtesy and respect are the foundation
Of a good and healthy marriage.
