Taking care of myself...

...looking back over my years in Alanon- A lot of what I shared was really veiled advice to other people... deep down I felt that I didn't matter.

Someone said years ago that life was about- hatch, match and dispatch.

Well today, for me it is about hatch, match, patch and dispatch...

4 week ago I was knocked off my farm-bike by a motorist, who did not give way. I had to go to hosp. and get x-rays, but my foot especially was badly bruised but not broken,,, much easier to focus on pain which has a known cause...

I did a step 10 on the accident- I could have done a lot more to avoid the accident. I don't have to be hypervigilant all of the time... just cautious and prudent...

...today i am off to the city to the sleep clinic. My wife, and daughter have badgered me for so long to deal with this... I have had bad sleep for so long it seems like normal to me. I am scared that might send me straight away to the psych. ward... [this is an old ingrained fear, and not all that likely....]

[its not every meeting here we can pause and eat our breakfast!}

I am taking the shuttle to the city, in case i fall asleep at the wheel of the car... over the last year I taught myself to swim. [could only dogpaddle b4 that...] and I have done a lot of work on my breathing... used to shallow breathe, and had a dry cough, which broke out when I was in a room with people-

but my SO won't let me drive the car with the grand-kids in it... that was the bottom line with me...

...so its off to the city in one hour...!

Good to be on the board here... this is a great place... it is a credit to Alanon Family Groups, and a credit to us, all of us... smile

I will be thinking of you David, I hope you find some help at the sleep clinic.
I can relate to not wanting to seek help for medical issues in case I was "sent to the psych ward" and later when I became a mother I did not want to admit any ill health in case my daughter was taken from me so I would tough it out at home, the are irrational fears but quite powerful and I'm glad you recognise it and are seeking help regardless.
Thanks for sharing with us and prayers for you today, I hope the outcome is good.

My brother went to a sleep clinic and got one of those machines and can't believe how much sleep he is now able to get - he thought his erratic sleep pattern was normal too! Good luck and have fun, hope the sun shines for you, that always makes things better.

DAVID SAID   Quote

Someone said years ago that life was about- hatch, match and dispatch.

biggrinbiggrinI really laughed at this comment David.

I do love to read about how you are taking care of yourself, reflecting on your accident and learnrig the lessons  instead of blaming etc like our old tools taught us to do . Powerful stuff!!!

I hope you continue to recover and good luck at the sleep clinic

Thank you for sharing this interesting  journey.

Loved your share, David. My SIL had the sleep study done and now sleeps with a C-Pap. It made a world of difference for her.
