I posted a except and my esh on Days of healing days of joy
this book is widely used in the aca/coda rooms, but i don't see it on CAL list
that said, can we post exerpts and our esh on books we are reading, have read OR do we need to do exerpts on the CAL only
I know...i should have asked this FIRST but did not....if I was wrong to do the days of healing days of joy , "what I got out of it" just take down the threat....Its ok...I won't be upset/offended...after all...rules are rules....
I think this is fun, using what we learned from our literature, and i didn't see this book on CAL list...neither is beattie's language of letting go which i would like to offer up "what I got out of a page"
can anyone clarify this for me?? i may or someone else may have asked this, but its been a long time and I don't know this board rules
Thank your for your help

My take on it would be that quoting other books that have helped you sounds ok. Im not clear on the rules either, im new to this moderator malarki. Personally, the only problem i have is when newbies are directed to non cal when maybe it would be better for them to get to a meeting asap, rather than staying in isolation. Thats just my opinion.
Its a good question, i would also like to know. In meetings, i know we are not a meeting, but the idea is that non cal could distract us from our purpose or dilute the program. The alanon literature talks about this, outside issues distracting us from our goal, i did think this may be religion, politics etc so not sure non cal books would apply.
For me, i get confused with other theories or opinions. Alanon is pretty clear for me to follow but i dont do well with other ideas, thats just me though. I would also never do therapy, bringing in different types of psychology would get me questioning things, so i stick to what works for me and thats alanon 100 percent of the time.
I only use stuff that butresses what I heard in alanon....i try to avoid the "far out" stuff, or stuff that I have never seen also mentioned in alanon
days of healing days of joy is a widely used aca/coda book, so is language of letting go and they are in sync with alanon principles and teachings...in my opinion , anyway
yea, stuff that distracts, i hear ya...but to me if it HELPS and gives a "how to" on , say, detachment, yea, I read it....
lets see what the mods think....

Ive found out that its better to stick to the conference approved literature to avoid confusion. There is so much anyway that we could quote and talk about it for years to come. Thanks for the question neshema.x

well maybe one of you can wipe the two threads that i have today that are either a twitter quote of days of healing days of joy.....its fine by me.....i think i am gonna stick to "Neshema' posts---esh'ing others and if i am prompted to do a H4T or ODAT or otherwise cal approved thingy, I will....i belong to an alanon board on facebook and they post cal stuff that i might share and give esh on............
I just don't want to do something innocent but wrong and get hammered....this isn't my board, so I need to "when in rome, do as the roman's do" or take the high road and just give "ME" posts and esh the others

I modified both my posts to reflect only what i have been working on about me.....i wiped the "quotes" part, and kept it focused on me and what i am working on....no more references to anything outside of my own esh from me............hope i am "OK" now

I know this question isn't directed at me Neshema but I try to paraphrase something I've read rather than quote directly from something - paraphrasing it in my words describing my understanding of it and how it effects/helps me understand things.

I like that concept....i can say "hey i saw this and learned that..................." i think that is safer ground.........thanks for the reminder
