the welcome pack

The alanon welcome pack is the best thing ive ever read. The leaflet on detachment  was the best tool ive ever learned and used. It gave me a lot. When i learned to detach with love i got freedom. I learned,

i didnt need to suffer because of the actions or reactions of other people.

Not to allow myself to be used or abused in the interest of anothers recovery.

Not to do for others what they should do for themselves.

Theres much more i learned from one small leaflet, simple and logical yet powerful. Sometimes, i put these tools down and im quite quickly rewarded with that old stinking thinking. Back to basics for me.

Whats your favourite tool?

Thanks, Elcee. I don't think I have one favorite tool as there is so much good stuff that Al-Anon offers to us at meetings and at their website.

I do have a favorite Step, however, out of all the others and that is the 11th Step. I can use it in any circumstance, at any time, when I'm experiencing confusion or uncertainty or their opposites. I love that Step.

When I practice that Step, it helps me remember that I don't have to have all the answers, figure things out, fix things. I just have to remember that there is a Higher Power who knows me and can guide me in ways that are most loving for me and/or for others. Through prayer(saying what is on my mind and heart) and meditation(listening for that still small voice), I can relax and wait for the guidance I know will come and the power(energy) to do what is mine to do. If nothing comes as a result of my listening other than my experiencing a sense of well-being and peace, sometimes that is my HP's will for me and there is nothing more for me to do but remain centered, peaceful and still.

I love the 11th step, too, as it is through prayer and meditation that I come closer to God and then have KNOWINGS that I can experience about me and my world.  It is humbling and freeing....I love your insights elcee

Thanks for the thread LC. My favorite is the "The Just for Today Bookmark". I still carry it around after all these years.

It is a powerful reminder how I can live in a constructive manner One Day at a Time. I also like the Detachment pamphlet.

As for the 11th Step I love the fact that when I pray for HP's will in this Step, I also pray for the power to carry it out.  That was always one of  my fears--  That HP would give me a difficult task and I would not be able  to accomplish it.  The 11th  Step assures me that with His will comes the Power.  Great, I can do that!!!aww

My favorite is the Serenity Prayer - using it to help me determine what are things I cannot change and what I can do something about and the peace that comes with knowing something isn't mine to fix.

Just for today helps me a lot. I can do a lot of stuff when I take it one day at a time. Its a gentle but very powerful tool for me.

Hey el-cee, my Al-Anon group gave me that packet on my first visit. I still have that leaflet on detachment, and I still read it often. I'm moving backwards for the time being and working steps 1-3 again. Just feeling like I need to shore up my foundation. My favorite tool at the moment is the slogan, "Let go and let God."

It works if you work it.smile

I really like these points.....all three of them i had to work on and work hard b/c of my codependency , but i am emotionally sober one day at a time.....

nice post, el-cee.....
