Hand me down dog

Hi, I have not checked in for months, although I read posts daily. I just cannot get the consistency thing in life.  I do this (AlAnon, workout, eat better etc), feel better, then I stop. I know it's on me to change this pattern.

We inherited the sweetest dog. She is ten. I hope she stays with us a while but I am realistic. For whatever reason I felt we just needed her. I got to thinking, this sweet dog was disgarded. No one even thought twice about when it got inconvenient to have her. But we adore her. She literally made our house happier and better.

So, I have decided, that being a hand me down mom, friend, lover, etc, might be a good thing. If I can just leave and not look back. I can find people who love me. In a new home. And someone will love me and my son like this hand me down dog who we just adore.

No idea if this makes sense. I just need to change and not look back. My hand me down dog has such a loving home, no matter if she misses her last owner. There is another life after you get disgarded. I just need to find it and not be afraid.

I understand completely and also the realization is that you are loved completely and constantly by the MIP family...You have what it takes to love others and to express it in compassion and empathy...I'll bet you love others just as naturally as you do the dog...don't ever loose that and find that one other person to love exactly the same way...you.   My counselor once asked me If I could suppose what it was like to be loved by me and I broke down and cried as a man unashamedly and knew the solution at the same time to understand and feel my own love.  The golden rule is to love God with your whole mind, heart and soul and your neighbor as yourself.  I have to understand how to love myself before I know how others feel when I love them.  You are far from a hand me down dog metaphor.   Love you  (((((hugs))))) smile

Great wisdom and share MM  Love you analogy and the fact that  you took in the" hand me down dog".

As one of our daily readers remind me daily,  it takes" Courage to Change'  Program and HP gave me that courage and all I had to do was show up one day at a time.

I assure you that "Yes" there is life after being discarded I can vouch for that.smile

My life is far better this round and I have been able to use my al-anon tools to find healthier friends now, and although I still find myself finding some unhealthy ones, I know how to detach and take good care of me when it happens now. You are worth it. Sending you love and support!

Makes prefect sense to me. Once we have gotten through all the scariness during the big change, we become free to realize that we grew, and that we can move on to freedom.

My dogs are anxiously awaiting a picture of yours!

Makes perfect sense to me also. I happy your here with us and giving us this share. Thank you

I also took in my son's kitty when he couldn't care of her anymore. Nisa has been such a joy and we love her to death. I have a piece of my son's life with me and that I'm grateful for.

((( hugs )))

Nothing wrong with a hand me down dog. Beautiful share. I am so happy that that sweet dog found a loving forever home. Rescuing brings me sweet joy. All my pets are rescues

I love this analogy. I feel like a hand me down dog too, if others haven't valued me, then they miss out and I will meet people who do love and appreciate me!
I'm with Kenny, I wanna see the new doggy

What a deeply sweet post...you are already deeply loved by many (you too Melly and the rest of us).  There isn't a waiting for those that are yet to come and love us, they are here, now.

You are such a lovely person. I of course get it. that is one fortunate dog!

I know what you mean. We all need love. Please be very careful and make sure whoever you are with, better know you have great worth! You deserve to be love for just who you are!
