One Day At a Time January 15

Speaks about how we pray for sobriety for the alcoholic because we believe this will solve all our problems. It points out that  sobriety is only the first step in building a good life. Unless we both work to overcome the emotional conflicts within ourselves, we remain at a standstill. Our troubles stem  from the personality flaws that caused the alcoholism and from our irrational reactions to them.  I must remember that I have much to learn about adjusting to the sober alcoholic.

Todays's Reminder~ I will not delude myself into thinking that sobriety is the sole goal. I will deal with each problem that comes to me with the help of the Twelve Steps and the loving interchange with my friends in Al-anon.

"I pray for the wisdom to take a rational and tolerant attitude toward whatever troubles I must face each day"

Pg 15

Even though my exAH had a few spurts of not drinking he never worked a program nor resolved his underlining problems that kept him drinking. I however found al-anon anyway and saved myself and I believe this reading hits on that in a big way. My children and I are far healthier since I found al-anon and these 3 daily readers have been life changing. Let it begin with me!  Sending you all love and support on your journey's!

Thank you for the thread, BF.

Keeping the focus on myself and letting others be where they are as they are is a lesson I'm still learning. I can't remember praying for sobriety for my x, my son, my friends or other loved ones. I can remember thinking the problem was only with x. Continued work in the program showed that was a faulty conclusion. Recognizing that I, too, needed some work has kept me busy now for a long, long time. I'm not there yet and I'm growing.

Good morning all A fast update on my brother. I spoke to his son last night and he is doing better in an acute care hospital. The Doctors have stabil ized him and his sons are again looking to transfer him to a rehab facility They are checking out facilities that have a Cocktail hour to accommodate him!!! I made no  comment on this interesting issue .
Thanks BF for the topic
After reading both the ODA T and C2C mediations I asked myself how to accomplish these daunting tasks After all I always thought that sobriety was the big issue and if he became sober all would be well because I was perfect . and since my automatic reaction-- go to negative coping tool was to project to the future - how can I develop a different response?

A sponsor helped me to uncover the fact that I was far from perfect and that my "worrying" about another was based on fear of what might happen to my life and was a self centered destructive action. The Steps, meetings, slogans, used every day helped me to let go of my old destructive tools and face life with acceptance, compassion, courage, serenity and a little wisdom. It is a one day at a time program and I must never forget this.

Still sending you prayer, love and support Betty! You rock your program and just know we are ((((((((((Hotrod)))))))) you always! Currently I have no ripples from the A's in my life so it is much easier to breathe, but people can easily rile me A or not when I am not working hard on my recovery! Great reminders here.

WOW. Nice post. Grateful mentioned letting others be where they are and Betty talking about worrying is out of fear of impact on my life. Really needed to see this thread. Wisdom galore ((((((Betty))))))). Glad your brother is progressing. Continued light energy being sent from here. Wow. These two threads are great readings for me. Stuff I have to continually work on.
