ODAT Thought for Today

ODAT for today states that and if I learn to look at my life as an adventure I will discover thousands of little things that occur in  daily that can enriches my day.If  I stay in the present moment I can enjoy the sunrise, the sound of the birds, a long walk and all the interesting things I see a long way.

"I ask God to make me willing to see clearly my everyday experiences, to sharpen my perception of how much there is to enjoy, even in ordinary things and happenings. Let me be receptive. Restore to me my capacity to wonder.

I actually feel as if God has restored  my capacity to wonder and I am so grateful.  Each Morning  and late evening I go on- line  and  visit an Eagle Nest camera focused on   an Eagle nest that has a mom ,dad and two babies. I love seeing  how loving and gentle these huge birds are as they  care for , feed and protect  their young.  Then when I walk through my apartment complex, I take the time to  feed the many squirrels that live there,   They trustingly come up to  me and take  the nuts straight from my hand.    How special is that !!!! I do truly marvel at creation.  Thank you God

Your reflection on today's ODAT reading made me smile. Thank you, Betty.

The word Wonder really stands out for me. As a "ducks in a row" and closure type person, I can come to a conclusion in my thinking that may block other facts that I'm missing in the moment. I've learned to come only to tentative conclusions for this moment in time or day in time and still keep an open mind rather to close off my mind to the more that can be revealed. I've also learned that if I ask the question, I wonder, when my mind wants to clamp down on my tentative conclusion, it gives my HP more room to work in me.  Of course, this is still an in progress thing for me.  I still catch myself with clamping down on a conclusion.  Maybe the catching myself is more progress than the keeping an open mind?  I wonder?biggrin

Thanks for helping us start the day with a reflection on the page from today's ODAT.

Nature is my friend and guide I think. Five minutes in her company is enough to change my thinking completely. Thank you for the reminder Betty.

These shares are joyful for me to read and I love these daily readings here for us to reflect on and share.  Thank you for beginning this practice, Betty.

I have been doing a 30 paintings in 30 day challenge.  My first thought is I don't have anything to paint, then I sit down and just begin.  What comes through in the paints is an ooh ahhh experience as I watch them flow together, mixing and creating new colors.  My day is enriched after I partake in this spiritual practice.

I love this hotrod. I forget this gift sometimes, to find joy in every day. To take time to look and enjoy. Enjoy your birds. Thank you.x

I have to agree, I believe that I've become so much more thankful over these past several years! Not to say I don't still have my moments though :)

Thanks (((hotrod))) This was a really nice reading today. I couldn't help but feel a little more serene this morning when it was read aloud at my meeting. Those are lucky squirrels to have a friend like you to help see them through the winter months.

Thank goodness for our rituals and simple pleasures that keep us connected with our higher power and bring joy to daily living.

Thanks for sharing.  TT

Love everyone share on this topic I agree that starting the day with a positive thought works wonders.

Paula I love your new 30 day project as each painting is lovely. And TT I smiled as I thought of my" lucky" squirrels .

I am off to my favorite step meeting.whch is on the 10th Step . I enjoy this step as I practice it each night before sleeping. This works both ways as I become more mindful (as Truth says) of all that I have experienced in the day , appreciate the gift of life much more and I also see where I can improve my responses or attitude. A win win

Mahalo Hotrod and the rest of the contributing family.  This for me what "recovery" is all about considering how I use to live before finding the doors of Al-Anon.  The picture of you and the squirrels is good spirit for me Betty as it reminds me of "renewed gentleness" which was part of recovery for me also.  I see you and squirrels at the same time see myself with the doves in the morning when I get to work.  They sit high up (40ft) above the ground and watch as I spread bird seed and then call "Hele Ai na manu...Hele Ai"  which means "come eat birds..come eat" and they all descend to the feeding ground around me.  The routine I believe is more a joy for me than for them and then maybe they are doing it for me more...hmmmmm.  I don't believe that I do this or anything outside of the presence of my higher power who remains with me now as we come to MIP; this miracle in progress.     (((((hugs))))) smile
