Bella and tolerance

I had a birthday celebration and my daughter brought me a cat,I love cats and dogs!Poor Bella wasn't being treated very well and it is freezing cold here,my daughter was worried about her,so she talked to the owner about taking her.I am getting to know her,she is so happy to get attention, she meows constantly, she loves being petted, she is a adjusting to the other pets well.Although she isn't quite comfortable with my dog yet.It reminds me of how people come together, some have been mistreated and have to test the waters before feeling comfortable, she is a little leery of my dog who is very loving and playful. He is so spoiled he doesn't know to be wary of anything.Of course there is willow my little princess who has it made.Bella is a little restless and it will take her a little longer to find her niche,It just kind of made me think about different personalities and loving everyone.

Thanks, Mary. I like cats, too, and I once was so afraid of them that I felt like jumping out of my skin whenever one came near. Then, one day - and I was in my 40s - that's how long I carried that fear from a childhood bad experience that my brain repressed so I didn't know the reason for it - a mother cat left 4 babies only about 4 weeks old where I worked. I can remember looking at the mother cat as she looked at me from a distance and reaching down slowly towards her kittens watching her reaction. She looked at me and ran off. She was a stray. She was skinny. I saw that she couldn't feed them and did what I could do to help her babies who were too vulnerable where they were to survive the night. What I didn't expect was that I would end up with all four of them in my house and in caring for them overcame whatever it was in me that became like a phobia for me. I love that you have shared this story and that you have invited Bella to come in and stay awhile with you. Glad you are here, too.

congrats on your new family member!

I completely agree. All families, all different kinds of families are going to bump heads and have some adjusting times. What is important is that we slow down and see what the other does, and help them adjust.

hugs!

I never was a kitty person, but when i went to shelter a couple of yers back, i was visiting the dogs and this fluffy grey striped tabby mowed at me and reached her white socked paws at me...like "come here...visit me"  I did an the guy let me take her out of her cage and visit, she was so tame....

I went home that night w/a cat......dogs were like "what???   hey this toy MOVES....and this toy GROWLS"   had to put the kitty in her crate till she got used to the dogs and vice versa....now young pit bull and she play.......cat taught me a lot about boundaries.....when pit gets in her face too much, she gets smacked down in her place......they are best friends.....caught them sleeping together...it was funny.........what a nice pet she turned out to be....
