Telling our son tonight

Prayers appreciated.  I have the butterflies in my stomach.  Our son has some math homework to finish and then we'll eat dinner and I think we'll tell him after that.  Please pray!

I haven't had this experience and I can't imagine the trepidation you must be feeling.  Prayers for guidance and wisdom for you and your husband and whatever your son might need, too.

Thank you all. It was quick and relatively painless. He said he sort of saw it coming. I think the next few days will be key. AH didn't say much, he let me do all the talking. There's no really good way to do it and I'm sure it will be a process for all of us as we move forward.

tough thing....sending you good, peaceful energy......its tough, but ya know?? he probably won't be that surprised...kids kinda "know" even tho they don't say much if anything.....

i would just be honest, and refrain from slamming each other, just keep it to the facts that you are breaking up and you BOTH love him to the moon and back...

when i dumped AH#2  i expected the girls to go postal on me b/c they loved him....but they knew he was an alcoholic and they sorta knew that "mom was fed up and wanting a healthier life"  and so yea, they just wanted what was best, really!!!!

D#2's natural dad is an alcoholic and she has no problem w/my not wanting to be in same room with him...he is a real jerk when in his cups.....when i see him at our get togethers i just stay away from him......wish she treated me as well as she treats him,  but oh well, thats another story......

good luck!!!!

That was brave. Good job in moving through challenging stuff. Your son seems pretty intuitive actually...especially in terms of you. He is pretty in tune with you in a good way.

That took courage, Bonnie, and trust. I'm glad you are pleased with the results this far of what I know has been a difficult challenge for you.

i know it's hard. i've had to do this twice. the first time, i made my ex tell our kids because he was the one leaving...this time i told the kids because i was leaving. not fun. but necessary.
hugs to you and your son.

Thanks everyone. My son and I (and the dog by default) played a game of chase when I stole the whipped cream from the fridge while my son was heating up the last piece of apple pie. We laughed and just went about our night like nothing had changed. I'm sure he'll have questions but we'll handle those as they arise. My AH went and hid in the master bedroom like he usually does. I have a feeling that our son is waiting until we're alone and dad not's around to start asking his questions. He had an upset stomach last night and I heard him up at 1 AM, but that might be because he ate way too much food last night, LOL.

Sounds like you have a VERY cool son.....so so sorry this had to happen, but i am sure you didn't do it w/out thinking about it  a whole lot...people say  "oh you cna't break up the family"  well that is just not true...if an adult member is toxic and detrimental, the healthy one has to make tough decisions and in the end it ends up ok for the kids.........had to laugh at Deb's pig and the loaf of bread.....with me its a pit bull and my raisin bread....
