Decisions decisions.

Hey everyone. sick of me yet? Lol I am posting an awful lot aren't I. I have been pretty isolated recently and not wanting to leave my room due to the unfriendly vibes in the house. I am SO ready to move onwards and upwards!!

So today I applied for 4 places. 3 of them are houses with 3 bedrooms and all of them are more than I can comfortably afford right now, however it would be fairly easy to rent out a room to someone and 5 hours work or so would cover the difference too which isn't much. They were the cheapest homes available. I am now looking on the bay-side of my area in a small town that has cheap housing and really is quite gorgeous. So any of these homes would be good in the sense that they have everything we need and we could be comfortable there long term; the downside is I am either going to be relying on a person to share the expenses or be relying on finding a job immediately which is not at all guaranteed. I also need significantly more rent to start up the tenancy and, who knows if I will be accepted into any of them as it is high summer here and the market is competetive right now and I am not a desirable tenant because my income is so low. So they would each be nice but I don't know how I would afford any of them to begin with.

The 4th place is a teeny tiny little 1 bedroom shack basically. Here's a picture- it ain't much.

main_zps0e326bdb.jpg

What you see is what you get, basically on the left is the lounge, we would have to creatively use cupboards to seperate a hallway  and that would be daughter's room. On the right is a single bedroom that is smaller and would be mine. We would not have a lounge ergo no visitors. The rest of it is just a little kitchen, room for a small table and chairs, a combo bathroom and laundry and a little walkway along the back, not much bigger than a balcony really. So these are the negatives and as I said it aint much but there ARE positives to this place.

1) I CAN afford it, in fact it will cost me just exactly the same amount that I am paying to live in this place...but we would each have a room and not have to share the kitchen or bathroom either.

2)I could have the dog and cat in there, its a crappy old place, I don't think they will be fussy and there is a dog next door plus the agent said it would be fine as long as my pets aren't noisy.  And there are no goats....

3)They will do a 6 month lease which would give me time to find some work in the area, establish a rep with the agent and generally get it together to rent a better place. Plus winter will be a much better time to find an affordable place, at the moment a lot of places are on the market as holiday houses for big $$$. January is a terrible time to try to rent around here. So it would buy us some time.

4) This is the view from the front gate.

So I think I could handle it being squishy inside with all of that wide open space and there are a LOT of really nice places to go walking. Yes that is my chariot and my Bowie guarding it for me. I like the view very much.

So this is what I think is currently realistic. It's better than where I am and better than staying at my mothers for any period of time. Its not great and daughter is going to absolutely HATE it, there is no room for her trampoline for a start plus no lounge...she is going to be very unhappy but I can only do what I can do and this is all that is affordable right now. Or I can keep trying to rent a more expensive place and find someone to share or find work...I think it's obvious which way I am leaning right now. So fingers crossed that I will be approved for it and can move in by the end of the week. That would be SUCH a relief.

This is just a random abandoned place I found nearbye. I thought it was cool in a very creepy way.

So that's the result of my day of house hunting. I so hope I get the little place and can use it as a stepping stone to set ourselves up somewhere better. If  am approved for a more expensive one then I'll really have some tough decisions to make but for right now i'll just be happy if I get the crappy one for the time being. I so hope something good comes of this.

What a view, i would say go for it. Ive lived with no lounge as it was turned into a bedroom, its not too bad. Tell daughter its a beach house, so v expensive, its a nice little stepping stone mel. Looks just right, right now. Your determined not to go to mothers, i dont blame you.x

Waking up to the ocean is priceless. I see more positive than negative, its affordable, the furry family are welcome, and it fits you and daughter whose probably just about to outgrow her trampoline which she can now put on gumtree and bank the proceeds. Stay bright and beautiful. I've my fingers crossed for you and the fish and chips. It actually makes good economic sense to rent that in the high season before finding other digs when rent drops. So y'know, that makes you smart financially. Add financially smart to your assert list and go for it, chin up, massive smile.

It would suit us. And daughter has been looking at 'small space' houses, you know...done up shipping containers, buses etc lately so I can say "well, here's your chance, do your best with this little room!" and i bet she won't be impressed at all lol.
I myself plan to locate a loft bed on gumtree and put my desk underneath it and hopefully squeeze in an armchair and TV and that will be my room. It's up to daughter how she organises hers.
Assuming we get it of course, I guess the landlord could always reject us, might not want 2 people squished into what is really meant for 1, might not want me based on my income, who knows. But I think this is the sort of thing I need to start looking for anyway, something teeny that I can afford while I rebuild my life from scratch...

It sounds quite exciting, this type of situation just brings out my compulsive obsessive nature, organising little spaces, honestly this sounds delicious to me.x

I think a loft bed is an excellent solution, also check out the ikea website. They are masters at small spaces, you could steal some ideas.x

I love the little affordable place Ms.M. You and your daughter have a private place, as well as an ocean view. You can both be creative about decorating Loft beds for both might be fun or daughter can order a bunk bed. I live in an apartment house and we share all the exercise and playground equipment You no doubt have a park nearby where she can play and see other children . I would definitely choose this one .

Good Luck

Mel... It's a great place to call your own without anybody telling you to leave, do this, do that. ALL YOURS. Who care if you can't have a livingroom for now. It's a roof over your head and at place to start moving forward without disruptions. Do you know how cute you can fix it up and be HAPPY.

Prayers coming that you get this place and you can start planning....

((( hugs )))

Southern Victoria, Glad, which is S/SE Australia
I think I will be excited if I get it; it'll be fun to see what we can do with the little space. Lol the roof is flat, perhaps she could put her trampoline up there...imagine how that would sound on a tin roof lol. If I was daughter i think I'd be happy to trade my trampoline for the giant swimming pool out the front!!
I did some investigating and the bus that will take her to school goes right by the place which is sort of uncanny as it's a big town with only one bus running through it.
The agent said he thought he would have an answer for me within 48 hours so, fingers crossed.

I quite like this little home! My thing is to keep it simple. Adding another person to "depend" on is a hassle. Plus as good as they may be they bring negatives also.

How perfect for you two and fur family. You won't feel stressed either.

If in time you get a job and want to move into something bigger, you will have a good history from a smaller place.

So glad you shared this. looks tidy and nice to me! Places to run your dog too.

We love it when we always keep in touch! Can't wait to hear whatcha got! hugs!

I think it is cute!!  Best of all.... you and your daughter wouldn't have to take in a renter and have the place all to yourselves!!!  If I had that view from the gate... I wouldn't be spending much time indoors anyway!!  Keep it simple!  :)
