More soap

Well, right now I have no money and no job. I don't know where I will be living and I won't know until next week what my school days and times will be for the rest of the year and I haven't had any luck finding summer work either. I don't know why, it's never been difficult before but there must be a reason. But for right now it is what it is.

Anyway I've been saying for ages that  am going to try my hand at making soap and stuff to sell at market; why not now? I bought some goats milk soap from a market stall a few years ago and it was so nice, ever since I have contemplated learning to make soap and doing the same...you never know, maybe it will turn out to be profitable. At worst I will not need to buy soap for a while....

So here is my very first attempt. It looks quite edible doesn't it? It is made from goats milk, lye, olive and coconut oils. I cooked it in the crock-pot (finally found a use for that stupid thing) and it seems to have turned out pretty well for a trial run.

I added the lye too quick and burnt the goats milk slightly so it has a yellowy colour. I also cut open blueberry and acai teabags and mixed it through as I have to use whatever is handy at the moment and they make it smell absolutely glorious but add to the murky colour. I made this batch quickly and cut it roughly into small pieces which I will hand out to family and friends so I can see what people think and tweak the recipe. Now that I have satisfied my curiosity and found that it really does work, tomorrow I will slow down and make a "pretty" batch; not sure what I will put in but I will find something I am sure. Suggestions welcome!

I talked for years about all kinds of things I was 'going" to do while I lived with A. Since I ceased living with him I seem to actually be DOING them. Interesting as for all of those years I had more money, my own big kitchen to work in, plenty of time...why did I never do any of this stuff before? I talked about it all the time...

I have images in mind of moving into a house soon and having a room set up for making soaps and other things...crock pots bubbling away and bags of herbs hanging up to dry, making my own essential oils, it's a nice vision, I wonder...I just wonder...

Anyway here is soap version 1.0. It aint pretty but its a start

meliss, put a pretty package on that soap, and a note that says no preservatives or completely natural, and it will sell. People want homemade stuff.

I'm wishing you  much luck with it. It looks pretty to me.

I think the stuff that looks edible, like this soap, sells well at festivals and such. I always want to buy it, and I normally dont care much about soap!

Good luck on this and, if nothing else, you are doing something youve always wanted to try. Whethet it sells or not, you wont have to look back later and think "gee, I never did try that soap".
