I've been going to a lot of different FTF Al Anon meetings lately - I was laid off about two years shy of when I had planned to retire, and having had the extra time to attend the additional meetings has helped me to make significant progress in my program - maybe things were getting a bit stale for me with my original group - maybe I just needed to hear the familiar messages with some different spins - maybe I was *finally* ready to hear the message - I'm not sure what's really changed, but I know that I really look forward to all of my Al Anon meetings and I feel that I'm *finally* getting it!
But today I was absolutely blown away at an Open AA Speaker meeting ! I always found comfort reading the AA Big Book because it gave me so many insights into my son's battle with the disease - even though the AA Speaker today had a story that was far different than my son's story, the insights into how the disease affects the alcoholic and how the alcoholic sees things helped me get a better understanding of what's going on in my son's life.
