My 85 year old mom has some challenges with blood clotting. Tonight, before we ate our Christmas Eve dinner, our son's dog was cleaning up a scrap on the floor, my mom went to pick it up and he bit her arm. He is a gentle dog, so this surprised us. My mom bled in 4 places for some time. I applied pressure and the bleeding finally stopped. She was not upset but my father was worried. He has dementia, so taking this in stride was difficult. I am sad my mom was injured and sad that my dad was so affected. I am concerned, too, about the potential for infection. She is not feeling well and taking care of my father is diminishing her energy. A difficult Christmas Eve.
Oh PP, I am so sorry! If you are worried about infection, I would bandage it with honey (yes, honey) and/or antibiotic ointment and keep it on overnight. If it looks like it's getting infected, I would get her to urgent care to start some antibiotics.
I hope things settle down and that everyone gets some rest tonight. Sending up prayers and virtual hugs to you!

Hugs Paula.
That sounds horrid and upsetting. I wonder what spooked the little dog?
I hope she heals up quickly and you are all able to enjoy the rest of your celebrations together.

Oh, I'm so sorry to read about this, Paula. Lots of prayers for all and most especially for your Mom and Dad and the dog, too. (((Paula and her family and TRex)))
PP...Prayers coming for you all...specially for you. Often time we feel more pain eve without the real bite. Hold her HP...calm her spirit. ((((hugs))))

Oh (((((((((((((Paula))))))))))) so sorry to read this......if u pour peroxide on her wounds it should be ok.....i am sure you take good care of your pet, so its not like he/she is out hunting, eating out of people's dumpsters......a good peroxide or betadine cleansing should be ok......poor thing, I do hope the rest of the holiday goes ok.......sending all of you healing and love energy

I agree...YES honey....it smothers bacteria....that is why when folks get sore throats they say use, eat honey.......i have it in the house here for food and yea, i use peroxide first but if i didn't have it, I would slather honey on a wound.....honey has a lot of good uses........poor little lady....how big is the doggie???? the fact that she bled, blood cleanses out wounds too......sending "mom" some healing hugs and healing to all of you...that must have been quite a scare

Honey is nature's antibiotic, LOL. Actually, when my dad was getting really bad bed sores from being paralyzed, the nurses had them using an ointment/rub that was primarily honey based. My stepmother swore by it for wound healing.

Paula, I am saying prayers for your serenity. You have a difficult situation with both of your parents. The unusual nature of your dog's behavior would be upsetting, given your Mom's injury.
I hope this has no worse consequences for her.
You know that picture you used to have with the 3 blondes? I always flashed on the 3 sides of a triangle, each supporting the other two. I hope you can find a better day tomorrow.
((PP)). I am so very sorry about what happened to your mom. Bless your heart. My prayers are for all of you. Dementia is like a silent thief stealing the precious parts of our loved ones. Sending you hugs and prayers for a better Christmas Day.
Merry Christmas, PP.

...the best honey to use is manuka honey... but you may not be able to get it over there...
I mean, stuff like this happens... I piled up all the canoes on my old trailer and put the paddles and life jackets in my station wagon... and we are spending hours out at the lake...
...thanks so much for your support and encouragement over the year...
