The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
I'm busy and can't really go out to meetings, but I feel like having community support will help me get through the holidays. The holidays are always hard. I feel so helpless and was hoping that by reaching out here, I might be able to convert these feelings into something else or at least shift my perspective.
Tonight, for the second time in my life ever, I went to bed and asked God to let whatever happen happen, but to keep me and my baby safe. It felt nice to surrender to whatever it is that will take its form.
Welcome to MIP. Although it is true that we are a supportive community, most of us know that attending meetings with an open mind, obtaining literature, getting a sponsor, working the steps and working the program is the only help that really works longterm. If you cannot go to face to face meetings, we have on-line meetings twice a day here all week long. I hope you'll attend meetings - face to face meetings being the most helpful - or on-line meetings for your own health and peace of mind. If you live with a practicing alcoholic, holidays are hard but in my experience most other days are hard - in fact impossible - without the support and help of learning more about alcoholism, ways you have been affected by alcoholism and ways that you can experience a better quality of life by learning how to work the program with others who have been there whether or not your loved one continues to drink.
Welcome MaxGleam, I am glad that you did reach out and shared with such honesty and clarity. Your prayer of surrender was beautiful to read and one which I support wholeheartedly.
I must agree with Grateful to B. that recovery from the effects of living with the disease of alcoholism is a true process and one that we must be committed to one day at a time I'm not sure if you are truly living with the disease of alcoholism but if so it is a chronic, progressive, fatal disease over which we are powerless. This disease affects not only the person that drinks but also everyone it comes in contact with. Al-Anon is a recovery program for members of families who have tried to cope with the disease alone.
Breaking the isolation caused by living with the disease is extremely important to recovery. That is the reason the face-to-face meetings are encouraged and held in most communities. Most people find it difficult to attend in the beginning because it takes time out of all the other activities but once that time is made, we find that the meetings give us such peace and constructive tools that we are able to easily fit them into our timeframe and still have a full life.
Again we do have online meetings here and you can reach out and shared their as well. Keep coming back there is hope

I agree with Grateful......you have surrendered to your god, now how about surrendering to the program which beckons you to claim the healthy, free life that we all can achieve through working our program....on line meets are a good substitute if you have none near you, also getting a sponsor and working the steps, slogans, reading the literature, it all works in tandem to help us reclaim our lost lives due to alcoholism, drugging, abuse, abandonment, whatever......alanon has saved my life....and yea, holidays can be tough...especially if you are living w/an active alcoholic .....but meets are 2x per day here, on line if face to face is unavailable and also reading the posts of others helps....reading and responding, helps me a lot...i get a different perspective the more i read here and respond here.........welcome to MIP...glad you reached out.......

Aloha MaxG and welcome to the MIP family. Keep coming back. It is most important and should therefore be a highest priority that you find yourself in face to face Al-Anon meetings. Face to face is very very effective and while there is years and years of experiences on this board; for me, face to face beats all. Keep coming back. ((((hugs))))
